Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were looking for a nursery. That's how we got there by chance.
We found a great sculpture garden in the forest next to the nursery.
All the sculptures are from recent years and the artist still continues to create

Amazing place, I could have spent several days here. The area has several areas with diffenerent tree groups, so the atmosphere changes as you walk ahead. Of course there are some seasonal attractions, such as Rhododensrons blooming late spring / early summer. No matter the season, there is always something to see. Lovely cafe with fresh pastries and soup.

Mustila Arboretum had been on my bucket list for ages. This summer I finally got there. However, the destination was bit of a disappointment - at least in July. I can imagine the situation is a whole lot different in early June when all the rhododendrons bloom, or in fall when the autumn colours paint the scenery. This time, it was just a forest with an entrance fee. Wondering in the woods is always relaxing, but in Mustila the distant traffic noise somewhat disturbs the zen experience.

At the beginning of June seems to be good time to visit, because rhododendrons and azaleas are flourishing. Arboretum is older than 100years and the oldest trees are such a big.

There are two arboretums in Kouvola: Hevoshaan arboretum (read separate reviews) and Arboretum Mustila. The latter is much bigger and better. Actually Arboretum Mustila is the oldest (founded in 1902) and the largest (120 hectares) arboretum in Finland - and one of the most important arboretums in Northern Europe.

Arboretum Mustila is situated along the highway 6 in the village of Elimäki, which belongs to the city of Kouvola. When you drive to Arboretum Mustila, you come first to a garden center (where you can buy seedlings and saplings) and the local winery. You should drive through this parking place to get into Arboretum Mustila. There is an own parking place for the visitors of the arboretum.

There is a very nice park cafeteria in Arboretum Mustila. This cafeteria is situated next to a small museum and it is a good resting place (if you are driving on the highway 6) even if you are not going in the arboretum.

However, I recommend that you visit the arboretum itself, too. There are very nice walking routes in the arboretum. The red trail is 1.5 kilometers long, the yellow trail 2.5 kilometers and the blue trail 3.0 kilometers. On these walking trails you see the most important parts of the arboretum. Arboretum Mustila is especially famous for Rhododendrons. The biggest plant is a Douglas fir which is 40 meters tall and 100 years old.

This is a very interesting place for the whole family!

Several good walks up to 3 km long. Many species of trees from outside Finland. Coffee shop with nice pastries and decent coffee. Worth stopping by. About 25 km West from Kouvola direction Helsinki, close to the road and well indicated.

For me - this is the best impression of this place.
Imagine, you see real northern forest - with bilberry-bushes and cowberry, and suddenly run into red rhododendron - it is tremendous impression!
Also: I was impressed by church in the open air - just the wooden benches, surrounded by huge fur-trees - it is impressive place.

But: price for entrance quite high.
And coffee in cafe, where tickets are sold - how to say - contains a lot of water!
So I am not satisfied with service.

Beautiful rhododendrons and azaleas flowering in June. That is probably best time of the year to visit. The arboretum is lacking in signs at the plants and trees quite often. Maintenance of the park is not the best. Some pathways are accessible with a wheelchair.
