A serene setting to enjoy but apparently way too small a place to have decent services available? Ravintola Mylly to be avoided at all cost. Completely unprofessional, overpriced and with a bad attitude.

Arrived there to have a stroll and a quick and hopefully tasty light lunch. The latter proved impossible. The first place had no cold storage for edible items, the second's 12€ "salad bar" had like three items and the third was an all time low. We went in Ravintola Mylly to ask if seats were available at the terrace. We were brought menus and water and so far so good. We checked the menu very fast, being hungry and on a schedule and ordered a starter plate (for 2) to be shared. The waitress nodded and went away so we thought we made an order. After 20min when the plate had not arrived we inquired her whether it was soon to come, and she replied yes. After 30min finally another waitress came to the table and asked for our order. We told her, already annoyed, that we already ordered and have been for half an hour. She told us that the person we had ordered from is "not a waitress, but just a dishwasher" plus "very young". Well, I don't know how old you must be to understand the basics of communication and a service attitude, but having people wait for half an hour just to make their order while picking up plates is hardly professional either. No compensation or real apologies offered, let alone taking responsibility (rather than blaming the client for the restaurant's mistakes!) and a valuable half hour ruined on our only summer trip Sunday made it really not worth going to that place ever again. Blaming a happening the previous day is not a valid excuse either, and "being the only waitress" is hardly the customer's fault.

That said, since we left still hungry we had friendly service from a waffle booth nearby and one cafe left untested so the area is not in boycott, just the one restaurant. I have heard good stuff about the bed and bistro, next time there perhaps l, if there ever is one.

I visited the Stromforsin Ruukki last week and it was a lovely place. The iron works setting was beautiful with the surrounding river and old buildings.
Little cafes and shops around with local handicrafts. The church is worth to visit
Just a lovely place.

Ruotsinpyhtään ruukki (also known as Strömfors bruk or Strömfors Iron Works) is a small but very idyllic old iron works village. It is situated in Ruotsinpyhtää (Strömfors), Loviisa. The iron works was founded in 1698.

There is something for everybody in the iron works village: beautiful old buildings, two free museums, art galleries, cafeterias, restaurants, handicraft shops, other boutiques, the church of Ruotsinpyhtää (built in 1770), a sauna, massages, music therapy, a small swimming beach, a playground, Escape Room Strömfors, Kukuljärvi hiking trail, accommodation (Strömfors Bed & Bistro, also special honeymoon and pampering packages including manor accommodation, private sauna bathing, a candlelit dinner and professional photos) and many activities, e.g. canoeing, SUP boarding, forging experiments and indoor karting (kart racing).

Fiskars Iron Works in Raasepori is bigger and more famous than Strömfors Iron Works. However, I love Strömfors Iron Works even more. This iron works isn't too crowded. We had one of our best summer days here!

The iron works was founded 1695 and current outlook from end of 18th century. The iron works was closed 1950 after 250 years of production. It consists several old buildings offering nowadays services like B & B, restaurants, cafes, flea market, museum and church. The church is rare in its design and has own TA page.
Summary: worth visit in the summer.

Kukul-lake has a nice 8 km walk where you see the summer Finland at its best. It takes you near lake and in the woods, you can pick blueberries whila you climb the rocks and sweat-remember there are mosquitos in finnish forests. After the walk you can go to eat some Carelian stew and fish et cetera at Strömfors ruukki and walk around the area just to feel the atmosphere. Perfect place for a daytrip.

Very beautiful and picturesque little village with history. Nice old houses in good condition. BUT the shops are full of peculior things and the art and exhibition was no big experience. The map of the area was disorganized and confusing. The museums were very traditional. We were disappointed.

In this area you will find several workshops of artisans, few cafes, a grocery, B&B and beautiful old buildings. Also summer theather (in FInnish) are every June. Inside of the church (Ruotsinpyhtään Kirkko) you will find a altarpiece done by Helene Schjerfbeck one of best artist in Finland.

The ironworks opened in the 17th century and eventually gave their name to the whole municipality in Swedish - Strömfors. The Finnish name remained Ruotsinpyhtää (Swedish Pyhtää). The wheels were driven by the westernmost branch of the Kymi river.

Nowadays, the Upper Forge has been restored and there are forging demonstrations on occasion. There is a museum in one of the other buildings showing how the iron was forged. There's a cafe too and some craft workshops of artisans making some incredibly interesting objects. Accommodation is available nearby.
