We had a private limo ride with Sebastian Limousine from Cesky Krumlov and spent 4 hours here absorbing the history, the tragedies, the memorials, etc. This was a concentration camp where many were executed in a variety of manners: poison gas, forcing inmates to run...More

Mauthausen. Today was a somber day returning from Vienna, on the road back to Germany I stopped for a bit of a history lesson that we all need, especially now when rhetoric tells you to believe someone who is different is less of a person,...More

Not a fun place to visit, but an important one to remember. The artwork here is striking with representation from many cultures.

Our Austrian friends took us here during a visit to them as “I’ve always wanted to go to a concentration camp I’d say they’re interesting from a historical perspective”. Famous last words. I don’t believe that you can describe a concentration camp to someone who...More

Words are not enough to describe the emotions and feelings this memorial brings up. Walking around, discovering the entire area in its details it's a history teller by itself. It's a place that reminds us always not to forget history and our past.

You might try Brixner Taxi based in Mauthausen. We took the train from Linz, and then Brixner took us from the Mauthausen train station to the memorial for 15 Euro each way (for two people). Maybe they'll drive into Linz for... More

I just rented a car from Vienna and drove there. It is not too long and it can be done in one day easily.
