Bit of Swiss history during 2 wars
Aug 2015
Interesting for a piece of concrete , for the English speaking tourist ask for English paper version, try to read it before you enter the fort it will make it more interesting , towards the end of the tour , you will find out why the German did not invade Switzerland, the sad part the guide spoke a bit of English add difficulty explaining the history of the boarder between occupied France and Switzerland, which would have made it more interesting . ( cold inside long sleeves advisable)

Missed the tour!

We were looking forward to visiting but due to a road diversion arrived a little late for the tour. There are a very limited number of tours and there was no compromise and we were unable to get access. The steep road is well signposted and there are good views of the valley. Make sure that you check the times and dates of tours in advance and be aware that the drive up from Vallorbe takes a little while so leave enough time to get there.

How the Swiss won the war
Aug 2013 • Friends
This a great place to visit, not your normal tourist venture and little of the beaten track. Quite easy to find and well sign posted from the main road.
This old under ground fort has been restored to what it was like in the 2nd world war. We recommend it to all ages as every one will love it. The views are great to see as well

Excellent if you like WWII history

This is an underground fortress in excellent condition. The main lift still works and the big guns swivel - you can use the telescopic sight to aim them at anything in the valley. There a 100+ rifles in the racks outside the sleeping quarters and the kitchen looks like it could be fired-up immediately to cook a meal for 200 soldiers.

What is particularly interesting is how the bunkers are disguised as farm houses and that the Swiss were worried about Hitler coming through their border with southern France as early as 1936.

The fort is a 10 minute drive from Vallorbe through farmland and forest - a great break from the motorway. It is well sign posted from the town. You need to go on the tour (check their website for tour times) to see the fort, and although it was in French, we were provided with good notes in English (also in German, Italian and a few other languages). The guide was enthusiastic and allowed us a good look around and to move the big guns and machine guns. The kids loved that, and to tell the truth, I did too. It's cold inside (10 degrees). The ticket office kindly provides spare coats, but they need of a wash, so best to bring your own. Also, it's a bit stuffy and confined - not good if you are claustrophobic. There are some stairs to climb, but it's not difficult and you can catch the lift up at the end.
When you are back in the town, or anywhere in the valley, you can see the farmhouse/bunker and know that you are being secretly watched by its guns.
I really enjoyed it.
