Picturesque hidden gem
Sep 2020
This tiny hamlet nestled in the Emilian hills is a hidden gem, it is compact and perfectly maintained, with a medieval feeling few other locations offer. It has a central building which is the focal point of the main square, and nearby a small park offers views over the nearby hills. Park your vehicle in the spaces just outside the city center and a few minutes walk will take you to the heart of the village, it will be worth it.

Worth the climb

Buy a ticket and listen to the curator's account of the castle and regional history.

This castle and it's regional partners were never attacked.

Interesting medieval village
Sep 2019 • Friends
It was very interesting to visit Castell’Arguato with its winding streets and medieval houses and castle. It was quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. The only negative was that we visited during the lunch break (which extends way beyond 12-3) and were not able to sit anywhere to enjoy the atmosphere.

Nice place to visit
Apr 2019 • Couples
We were on our way biking from Piacenza to Varano and after 27km we had a break in this place. There is a castle on the top of the hill, refurbished but still nice to see. Just before the main gate if the old town, you can get a delicious and cheap icecream: the name of the shop is "gelateria del borgo". 2€ for a small (that is actually mediums size for the standard of Milan) icecream with 2 scoops. Excellent dark chocolate

Fantastic atmosphere
Dec 2017 • Family
Castell'Arquato is a small town in the Val d'Arda Valley, few kilometres from Fiorenzuola in between Piacenza and Parma.
Park your car in the down part of this Castle and get around and get lost walking its fantastic mediaeval atmosphere.
Castell'Arquato has maintained its appearance through the centuries, was strategically important for dominating the valley.
The Collegiata di Santa Maria in the upper city, is a Romanic style church that will surprise you for its simplicity.
Comfortable shoes are highly recommended

hidden gem with very few visitors

what a wonderful place to visit, this medieval town full of history. It does no justice only to review the Borgo as there is much more and way of the tourist traps elsewhere.
The Borgo itself is not very large but very original and definitely worth the visit. Its simplicity alone is a breath of fresh air and shows the history of this region convincingly.

Beautiful afternoon in a gorgeous medieval town
Mar 2018 • Family
We visited Castell'Arquato with two young children (5yo and 6mo).
The child really liked the castles and Bell towers and we enjoyed a nice stroll in the old streets. The walk is not very easy with a stroller, due to the steep roads and uneven pavement, but nevertheless fun.

Great

Castell Arquato might be a small town but boy do they have a multitude of great restaurants and none better than this. Family owned and run since it opened it offers a fantastic range of dishes and an even better range of local wines, I loved it and will be back.

The medioeval in you

Interesting medieval town of Castell'Arquato it is in the early 10th century, the Old Town of Castell'Arquato is now a high rock which is strategically important for the valley, now surrounded by the village.
Its picturesque medieval features have led to the burg's appearances in movies such as Ladyhawke. Very interesting place. You'll love It!
