Cool spot

This is a pretty cool spot. It's a bit out of the way. Fairly cool beach, plenty of history around it too. It can get a little bit windy. So maybe hold onto your hats.

A west coast beach that is not very developed, you can walk along the beach when the tide is out. There is a river that children seem to enjoy and spots that are good for a barbecue. A small private campground is in a sheltered area just below the village.

A wonderful wild beach. Bring some time to look at the driftwood, cones and soak up the black beach atsmophere.

Typical west coast beach. Great for fishing if you have a boat. Stony under foot, so shoes are a good idea while swimming. A bit unpredictable with waves and rips. Not patrolled. Good for walks on low tide and great for dog walking. Swimming not so good for the littlies.

I usually sneek away here just to have lunch when i need to re charge my batteries and get away from work. good beach when the tide is out, public toilets are well serviced and friendly locals who will usually come have a chat. camping ground across the road from the main lookout which has good access to the beach.

When the tides out you can walk 5km to waihi beach. Stay away from the cliffs. One of the only beaches in taranaki you can take your dog.

Facilities are old and small but clean. No perfect but for a low price (10$pp for a site) you have everything : nice spot, quiet, ocean, shower and laundry free. The owner is very friendly. Finally we stayed 2 nights because we were really peaceful here. The city is 10 min drive (Pak’n’svae, banks, library). No Wifi. Like in every... More

The campsite is close to the beach and has considerable space for tourers, the facilities are probably due for a refresh. Still worth a visit but don't expect too much.
