This was our 2nd break-stop on the way to the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto from Kansai airport after our 1st stop-over at the Asahi Villa. Only visited the museum. Unable to tour the production floor cause we'd an under-21 teen. But nevertheless, it was still fascinating. We now understand what's "single malt" ;)

We booked our tour on December 2016 in October (about two month back) before traveling. Booking for the tour will be highly recommended as I do not think they accept any walk in guest. The factory is the only place of interest around the area and it will be shorter traveling time from Kyoto compared to Osaka ; although the... More

Went with my hubby to the Yamazaki Distillery. Just a short walk from the Yamazaki station. Be sure to make a reservation in advance for the tour else you would miss out on the educational experience of making whisky. At the end of the tour, there's the whisky tasting part which was clearly the best part of the tour haha!... More

Yamazaki Distillery is located between Osaka and Kyoto and is around 50 minutes train ride from Kyoto city. There are several paid and free tour but all needed to be reserved online in advance. The distillery is built along the mountain which you can take deep breathes and is really refreshing to smell the green around. I have registered for... More

The reservations for the tour were fully booked on the website, but I arrived at 11 AM and they offered me an open spot. For ¥1000 it was well worthwhile. They provided English audio guides for the tour and were very friendly and helpful. The property is gorgeous, we learned how different shaped stills produce slightly different spirits, and we... Definitely do the paid tour! By the time I wanted to book, it was all full! So... I could only check the website everyday running up to our departure to grab any cancelled spots. Luckily we got two spots for me and my husband (who is a big whisky fan). The distillery is in between Kyoto and Osaka, so can... More

Wonderful tour with a friendly, funny tour guide. The tour's conducted in Japanese, however audio guides in English & Chinese are available. It was informative, engaging & the tasting at the end was worth the trip alone! The staff are so friendly & helpful, even helping to stow my suitcase in an office as it didn't fit in the coin... Very well organized tour although it was done in Japanese by the guide. English (and presumably every other foreign language) only available via audio sets. Tour participants were specifically told not to ask questions so as not to disrupt the tour. These were the points that prevented my giving this tour 5 stars. Highlight of the tour was the whisky... I went here solo back in August. It was sweltering (37 plus degrees) and not ideal weather for whisky tasting. However the mission I undertook (going direct from Tokyo early morning) was well worth it. There are two options, museum only and tour and museum. Make sure you do the second as there is so much to see and experience... More

A great experience to see and taste the famous Japanese whiskey. The walking tour is about an hour and half long, we were provided with English audio guide. The only disappointing thing is we weren't able to buy this Hibiki blended one at the gift shop in time as it was sold out.
