The view here is beautiful. Worth visiting this area. You can take a bus from takayama bus station but you have to buy a ticket in advance as the buses are usually fully booked.

The shuttle bus was a few steps away from the bus station. It cost you 200 yens each way for the shuttle. We took the shuttle up and walked down which was enjoyable. The view up there was incredible. But be careful with many uneven...More

After an "Interesting" ascent you park in the uninteresting car park among some uninspiring buildings and follow the signs to the viewing point and you are blown away by the vista. The official photographers are quite happy to take your picture using your equipment. Spent...More

We took some time to find the way and eventually drove here through the access road from back. We were rewarded with a spectacular view of the world heritage village. There is sufficient parking even to accommodate tourist buses. Luckily we visited this area at...More

Visited here with group on tour coach. Access roads are very narrow and single lane in parts so many tours don't go here. Well with it for the views, which in early April still showed a fair amount of snow still present. However didn't feel...More

It takes 5 minutes to walk up the hill overlooking the village, but it is worth it for the view of the village a valley.

Take the shuttle bus to see the beautiful Breathtaking view of shirakawago! Allow sufficient time and don't miss it. If you are short of time, then make sure you go for this at the very beginning.

Hi, I'm planning s holiday trip to shirakawago sometime in September or October (or November) . I'd like to have a look at the nice golden paddy field before harvest time or the festival sometime in October. I can only choose either one. Which one is better ? And if I opt for the view of the paddy field, would sometime between 20-25 September be ok? I like cool weather so I'm trying to time it in such a way I can enjoy the nice cooler weather and the view at the same time . Might get to shirakawa via takayama. Any recommendations for nice resto with Hida beef? That is reasonably priced of course ;P

Rice is being planted in the fields at this time of the year and experiencing lush green paddy fields is guaranteed in late spring

Hi I am visiting Shirakawago in June and was wondering if I can drive up to the observatory deck? Also is there public parking located inside or outside the village? Thanks!

Hi, Christine Thank you for the tips. I will be going to Shirakawago next month. May I ask, I will coming from Kanazawa bus. Is the bus station near the observatory deck? Are there many areas and things to see up there besides the awesome view of the village? Any photos of the deck? Thanks May

The observatory deck is about a 1 to 2km hike away from the bus stop. About half of this hike will take you out of the village. I would recommend taking a taxi around the back of the hill where the observation deck is... More
