Long open slopes of a gentle gradient for beginner skiers/snowboarders. There were nary any other foreigners there other than me and my friends. The lift operators were helpful and patient (our first time taking the lifts, some falling involved), and the wide and relatively empty...More

Lots of variety from beginner to expert and everything inbetween, everything from board parks to long runs (if you connect them together). Lots of places to eat and drink on the mountain and good prices. A great experience.

Conveniently located 1.5hrs out of Tokyo, Iwappara has many ski slopes offering a great variety of gradients for various skill levels. Ski lifts to various start points is very efficient. Snow was powder, and came down regularly, even in mid-March. Good times!

Iwappara is a huge ski resort with a very big kids play area. Recommended place to bring kids for this place for snow play, and beginners ski.

Just visited this resort with my three children. We are all beginner skiers and it was perfect for us. Wide open slopes, convenient restaurants and a small sledding hill for when the kiddos needed a break.

Though late for your March 10-17, the season for Iwappara was till end March. If you are going later than that, Gala and Kagura are still open till May.

Though late for your last trip, perhaps for your future trips. Sierra Resort is at Iwappara, or otherwise Naspa new otani if you just do skiing. Early Dec more likely that the higher resorts like Gala are open.
