Shiga Kogan is a vast network of resorts. Ski somewhere different every day for a two weeks and you will never get bored. Probably my favourite resort in Japan. Negatives: limited nightlife/ restsurants/bars. Snowboarders will note a lack of park areas (but who cares?) Thousands...More

Seeing the snow monkeys at the bottom of the Hoppo slope was a highlight here. They all seemed to hang out in that one area. Eventually we saw more monkeys in the parking lot for Hasuike. The resort is huge, the largest in Japan. Lifts...More

Yes, the ski areas of Shiga Kogen cut through a lot of forest with lots of lifts and gondolas and, yes, it snows a lot and the snow is of fantastic quality. BUT: All that wonderful snow is groomed to death like you would absolutely...More

Whilst the variety of the runs is limited the skiable terrain is huge and the lifts are plentiful and the queues minimal except on weekends and even then only at a few choke points. Lift operators are super professional and helpful and are an example...More

It is a beautiful ski resort. The powder snow is perfect. It is huge and you have many places where you can ski. After ski, you go to the onsen to relax. I loved it!

Very unlikely. If you want to ski in December in Japan, best to go up to Hokkaido.
