A short Drive from George Town

A short drive from George Town take you to Low Head Pilot Station Museum & Lighthouse. Wonderful museum full of history and object from the whaling period. Try not to miss both.

The lighthouse is lovely for those of us who are into lighthouses :) but it pretty much stands on its own - not a lot of supporting information at the lighthouse itself.

A great spot to see the open ocean, Kelso in the other side of the river and if lucky some penguins in the beach side. You may also be lucky if you can hear the foghorn during your stay.

The views are what you would expect from a lighthouse. Magnificent beaches, surf crashing on the rocks, seals and penguins. Suggest going early or late as less windy then. A walk down to the beach is 30 minutes. Parking easy.

Well maintained lighthouse with a steam powered foghorn that is sounded every sunday at noon. One of only two of its type in the world that still functions. Pretty surroundings with free parking a short walk from the lighthouse.

The Low Head Lighthouse provides beautiful panoramic views. We called in late in the afternoon so nothing was open as I said the view is spectacular even from the ground. The wind was howling onshore but was still worth a look.

We had a chance to see the inside of the building beside it. Chatted with the staff that take care of this lighthouse. It was great to see and learn more about it.

Great to walk around but I would suggest not in the middle of winter. It was absolutely freezing, but worth the visit to see the straight and lighthouse.

The view from the lighthouse of the Tamar Estuary and Bass Straight is great. It is a very short walk from the car park to the lighthouse. Unfortunately we were not there when the Fog Horn sounds but it would have been great to hear. You can scan the code with you phone to hear what you missed.
