I have visited Liddington Castle in Swindon a few times. The walk around the castle is very good with views over Swindon and the surrounding area (But not recommended for people with any walking disabilities as the terrain is very steep)

The kids were away, so the wife and I set off on an adventure of our own to find the mysterious Liddington Castle - which I happen to drive past on the way to work down the M4 every day, but I've never found before!...More

From this commanding position on the ridgeway you really get a sense of how the ancient britons must have lived. The ridgeway stretches away into the distance on wither side and you can see Barbary Castle around 6 miles to the west. It's completely tranquil...More

A great escape close to Swindon. Brilliant views, fresh air and space for the children to run. Close to the Ridgeway path and Waylands Smithy to make a full day of it.

If you're driving here, rather than calling in from the Ridgeway, you need to choose carefully where you park. There are a few spaces at the nearby Liddington crossroads but they require walking up alongside the main road, which is towards a blind summit and...More

Liddington Castle is one of my favourite places to go and enjoy the silence, which occasionally gets broken with the hoot of an owl and the call of buzzards. Now and again I camp up there looking at the stars with a cup of hot...More

I've always wanted to take a walk to the castle as I see the hill everyday on the way to work. Like others have said it's not the most obvious place to find given that there is no carpark. We parked in a lay by...More

Where is the best place to access the place. I have look on OS maps and there are no foot paths up to the castle. I can see a few (what look like paths) but I dont want to upset any local farmers. Plus I see there is a bull in one of the adjacent fields.

When I went I parked in the layby at the bottom. walk back out towards the main road and turn right, just up there you will find the ridgeway. walk along that and its signposted from there. Enjoy!

There is a farm shop at Chiseldon which has parking. This is about a mile and a half from the hill just off the A346.There is also a small layby on the Ridgeway Road which runs past the hill which is big enough for one vehicle
