It was a real treat to visit Ellisland Farm yesterday: to sit in Burns' chair at his desk, to see his very wine glass, to walk along the river Nith where he walked composing Tam O'Shanter were special privileges. We learned things from Stuart, the curator, that we had never known, such as the lending library that Burns established and... More

Hi Aileen, thanks for the lovely review. I think we should start a website in reverse of TripAdvisor named "Tripperadvisor" where people such as myself could review our guests/visitors. You and most of my visitors to Ellisland would receive 5 Stars as I enjoy spending time and talking to them all! Thanks again, Stuart at Ellisland More

This is the farm where Burns stayed with his family for about three years and where many of his most famous poems were written. You can visit the farm buildings and house, see a video, consult books, see various Burns artefacts and farm machinery and stand in rooms where Burns wrote and lived (there is a friendly guide person should... We had visited here before during a "Days Open" day and enjoyed it but this time we had Stuart to bring Burns to life for us. We all commented on how great he had made the "Burns Story" so real. He was there when needed but not pushy and clearly loves Burns. A great place to visit not least to... More

Burns built the house and worked Ellisland Farm for three years when he first moved to Dumfries, and when you consider that in addition to farming he had a day job as an Excise Officer, comprised scores of poems and songs; kept up with his abundant letter writing; and received a host of visitors and admirers every day - it... We were greeted warmly and were surprised at just how much we were able to see. Very interesting little exhibition and introductory film in one of the barns. The house itself is lovely and there are lots of exhibits in the other buildings. Lovely riverside walks. Nice little shop and we're glad we finally managed to visit it.

It was wonderful to be able to sit in the chairs in front of the fire in Burns's kitchen with a curator who was so welcoming and informative . There was an unspoiled atmosphere to the place which transported you back in time . There are river walks and the farm yard is full of interest helped by the chickens... More

The gentleman who did the tour was very engaging and obviously very knowledgeable on Robbie Burns and Rabbie,s immediate family and extended family. Great to see how well the trust has kept and preserved this important part of history. Would recommend a visit to this lovely wee part of the world.

My husband and 1 were on a short break to Dumfries. We had planned our sightseeing for each day of our break. We chose to visit Ellisland Farm this morning. We arrived at 11.00am noting that the farm was open from 10.00am. We got there and there were 2 cars in the car park. We found the door to reception... More

This farm was occupied by Robert Burns for over 3 years where he worked the land and also composed songs and poems. The curator was very interesting in telling us about the farm and life there. There are also beautiful walks along the river Nith.
