Middleport Pottery Home of Burleigh is a unique visitor attraction. We are open to the public and have a whole host of things to see and do.

-Burleigh Factory Shop Open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm/Sun 10am-4pm

-Middleport Visitor Centre Open Tues-Sun 10am-5pm

-Cafe Open Mon-Sun 9am-4pm

-Factory Tours Tues-Thurs at 11am and 2pm, and Fri at 11am (all guided tours must be pre-booked)

On arriving at the visitor centre reception situated in the old lodge you can collect a map designed to guide you through areas of the factory that bring to life the history of the building and the people behind the pottery itself. Enjoy tea and cake on the canal side in the cafe. Understand the whole production process on one of the pre-booked guided tours. Then finish the day off with a visit to the Burleigh factory shop, where we have a wide range of handcrafted pottery.

The Prince's Regeneration Trust raised £8.5 miliion to purchase the Middleport Pottery site and to carry out restoration work which prevented existing jobs and skills from being lost from the area and will ensure the future of this unique site. The funding came from a range of sources including the Regional Growth Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and European Regional Development Fund as well as from private donors, Stoke-On-Trent City Council has been a key partner in the project.

Middleport Pottery continues to be the 'Home of Burleigh'; the pottery business which occupies approximately half the site. Burleigh is now owned by Denby Holdings and they continue to produce beautiful ware in the building which has been their home since it was bulit in 1888.

In 2014 the atmospheric site will feature a new visitors centre to explore and cafe to enjoy. These facilities will attract visitors from out of the area and offer spaces and facilities for community use. We will also offer a varied programme of education, events and activities.

In the remaining space, workshops will be created for small creative businesses bringing further jobs to the area, and allow them to grow and flourish. On the top floor, at the core of the site, serviced office space will also provide accommodation for small businesses.

We are committed to offering training and development and are working in partnership with the other Prince's Charities, Staffordshire University and many local organisations to offer exciting opportunities.

For the moment visitors are very welcome in the Burleigh shop and pre bookable factory tours are available.

Visited today, Saturday 14th January just and decided to go for a bite to eat in the Tea Room. Granted, it was at a busy lunchtime about 13:00 hours but to have to wait for the thick end of 1 hour for your food is beyond acceptable. I wouldn't mind if people were ordering a hot meal, but when the... More

Having cycled to the very pleasant tearoom a few months ago my wife and I decided to pay a visit to the heritage areas of the Middleport pottery. Expecting little for the entry fee of £3 each we prepared to spend perhaps an hour having a quick look around. Well, what a surprise was in store; The museum is packed... More

Visited Middleport pottery for the morning. Warmly greeted on arrival (by Jackie, I think) and taken on an excellent tour of the factory by John. A fascinating visit, all told. Extensive shops, too.

I have been to Middleport Pottery for afternoon tea on two occasions and now planning another visit with my daughter and aunt. The food is exceptional and a decent pot of tea which is rare these days. The sandwiches, cakes and scones are delicious. Friendly and welcoming staff nothing too much trouble. Give it a try you will not be... More

On the morning of departure to Manchester airport, I decided to give my guests the opportunity to sample a Staffordshire Oatcake breakfast in authentic surroundings. The Tearoom at Middleport Pottery fit the bill perfectly! The breakfasts were perfectly matched by the surroundings and each component appreciated by one and all. If only we had had more time to experience the... More

We walked to Middleport pottery along the canal on a Saturday morning so the museum was closed. We went into a couple of workshops that sell their crafts. We ate in the café which was lovely. Overall a very nice experience. Would like to return to do the museum tour.

Thank you for your kind review. I'm a little concerned that it appeared that the heritage areas weren't open? We open 10-4, 7 days a week so would certainly have been open if the cafe and workshops were? If you might consider dropping us an email so I can look into this it would be appreciated. Maybe we had signage... More

My mum and mum in law share a birthday. Treated they to afternoon tea here and it was lovely. Lovely sandwiches, beautiful moist cake and the biggest (but lightest) scones ever!!! Neither of the muvs enjoyed the short walk across the cobbles but once they were in, they enjoyed very much. Recommend a visit

Our cafe team will be delighted to hear your kind words. We are awaiting improvements to our cobbles as they do pose difficulties for some visitors. I'm sorry to hear that they were challenging for your Mums. We do welcome people to drive down to outside the cafe if it helps? We just ask that you let the team in... More

This amazing pottery is ideal for all ages and disabilities, you are all through the pottery to see the staff at work, from the start of an item is right through all the different process. There are lots of old stairs to climb, but if you are disabled they have a tour that does not climb these stairs, but it... More

We recently visited the Burleigh, Middle Port and had fantastic time at the historic site. The place retained its old bricks and mortar and presented a great experience for its visitors. We visited during weekend when the factory tour is inactive but nevetheless the whole experience of touring the place is still very worthwhile. The staff were very friendly and... More

Thank you for your lovely review. Our prebookable throwing experiences with Jon are becoming more popular by the day. He certainly is wonderful isn't he! We've had lots of people taking us up on our Gift Vouchers which can include Jon, the factory tour, behind the scenes with the 1888 steam engine and even lovely food in the cafe :)... More
