Paradise

Back again after a year. The same; it's so beautiful & even more quiet than last year.
On our first day we walked up to Blatten following the Church walk. A gentle start. Very beautiful.
Good walking shoes are essential.

Switzerland's secret valley. Not so easy to get to but it is beautiful.
Almost no foreigners, even other Europeans. Very little English is spoken.
Very few Hotels & restaurants but views to die for. Silence to shout about.
We were told about this place by an old Swiss couple in Saas Grund- who were not happy with that valley as there were too many tourists!.

No shops, no mass tourism, almost no n nothing... we shouldn't make too much advertisement for such a fantastic place! Beautiful valley, some nice hikes (Ahnenhutte is nice, Lotschenbergpasshutte is a beautiful day hike) and time to relax... perfect!

For my birthday, we decided to hike up the Lotschental Valley. We started the hike with our toddler in our hiking buggy but the terrain was not suitable to go uphill so we abandoned the buggy and went up on foot. It was not the easiest path with a 19 months old toddler but we made it without much drama. Unfortunately we could only stay along the lake area but the hike was well-worth the spectacular view. Clear, blue lake with the mountains behind. It could not look more picture perfect! I was amazed at how beautiful the scenery was. I would recommend anyone to do the walk, even if you are not a nature person. It is one of the most beautiful place I have ever been in Switzerland.

One of the more pristine valleys - no ski lifts to be seen!

We walked from Fefleralp to Anenhutte, beside Lang Glacier and back. This was beautiful, stunning scenery, clean air and no visual pollution. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Parking at the end of the road. 1 Swiss Franc per hour, although we were charged 6 CHF (the all day charge) for a 4 hour stay. We took the north side of the valley, with a few issues finding the start of the track. This side is a little higher above the river. Walked past Guggisee. A number of people stopped here. A fine, warm sunny day, so there were even a couple of skinny dippers.

Walked just past Anenhutte, and returned beside Lang glacier and then the river.

The 4 hour stay included 3 hours walking 12 Km. We climbed a total of 680 m, none of which was steep.

Our best walk this time in Switzerland. Very happy to do it again.

hike along the blue-white trail to Anen-Huette
Jul 2016
This is the second time in two years: we hiked from Fafleralp up the valley, keeping on the right and following the "Erlebnisweg" (blue-white) along the glacier and up on the back-side, to finally arrive at Anen-Huette (and back down to Fafleralp). Beautiful views, interesting hike - and good coffee and cake at the Huette

An unexpected Alpen paradise
Aug 2016
We booked a private vacation home through Air B'nB, and were really just looking for a cheaper alternative to Interlaken. This was infinitely superior! An unspoiled Alpen hiking area like you envision in your dreams.

Excellent area to get away from civilization. Valley is ringed by snow capped mountains on all four sides. Lots of little trails to walk between tiny towns. Great way to time travel.

Fabulous place for ski-ing. Beautiful wide pistes for all levels, and well maintained. A variety of restaurants and places to stay. Quiet at night. Not many places in Switzerland with so few people. Worth a visit!
