We had the courtesy of particiapting in one of the tours organized by the company - a tour around the Drwęckie lake. The cruise took a little less than an hour and provided nice views of lake's banks. During the cruise, some interesting facts are offered through the speakers. Overall recommended attraction when in Ostróda.

We started this 4 hour tour only with two English speaking couples and the boat was all for ourselves for half the journey. The landscape was amazing and the engineering of how the boat goes on land is impressive. However at no point on the trip did any of the crew explained anything in English. When we asked the captain he muttered 'no engelski' and just left us there with no information whatsoever even though another crew member spoke the lanuage. At one point a large polish group joined and immediately the audio with polish explanation was turned on. While on land waiting for the bus to take us back to Elblag the boat left again and to our surprise the captain switched on the audio and bet in what language it was - English! At that point we and the other couple were very disappointed. This is not the way to treat foreigners. We paid the same money and expected the same treatment. The scenery is worth 5 stars but the service is sadly to say inexistent.

There are many routs through the Elblag Canal and many beautiful lakes cruises, but we chose the longest one: Buczyniec - Elblag (5 hours). This portion of the canal is not only very picturesque but also gives you opportunity to experience the amazing engineering achievement of boats being launched over the grassy hills by water self powered system. In this route there are five inclined planes between lakes overtaking of total 100 meters of elevation difference. Wow!!!!!! This was our plan, but due to some repairs, only one (Buczyniec) of inclined planes was opened. So our trip was much cheaper and took little over one hour. We sailed over the grass once (Buczyniec inclined plane), sailed in the canal for a while, and then returned the identical way back. We took the official "Zegluga Elbladzka" trip, bought the tickets in an official cash register booth. However, when we entered the site/port by car, there were the private tour agents. They didn't introduce themselves as such, but were acting like an official port workers. They stopped your car, asked when you want to sail, offered immediate departure, and wanted to escort to the boat. It was all done in a very fast mode, the agents were fluent in foreign languages, and not much of details were agreed up on including the price. You will pay to captain, was the answer but how much was left unknown to us. It was all very fishy and we stuck to the plan and bought the tickets from the regular source. However most of the foreign guests fell for this private advertising not even knowing that this was a private tour.

This was a 5 hour long, unique and charming experience at slow pace. We could use the tranquility after a lot of stress before embarking, due to a booking error. The staff did what they could to sort things out, and all ended well :-)

Kanal Elblaski (Elblag canal) is a must see and unique engineering system allowing travel almost 150 km on the water. I was really surprised how it works.
