Food walking tour of Bologna
Feb 2020 • Friends
If you’re curious about the real food of Bologna you need to go on one of Helena’s food tours. We had a fabulous tasting and walking tour around the best food shops and markets in Bologna, tasting charcuterie, cheeses, piadina and balsamic vinegar. Helena is so lovely, engaging and amazingly knowledgeable about the produce and food of Emilia-Romagna. At the end of the tour we went to one of the oldest osterias in Bologna, osteria del sole and ate all the food that Helena had bought for us, charcuterie, bread and some sweet things too, along with wine. Thoroughly recommend this tour, thank you so much Helena.

A fantastic insight into the food and food history history of Emilia-Romagna
Feb 2020 • Friends
We met Helena in a beautiful cafe where she gave us a brilliant overview of the region’s foods. From there we walked around the city sampling many different local specialities, from amazing cheeses to 30 year old balsamic vinegar. All the while Helena’s knowledge and rapport with shop owners made us feel really at home and welcome in the city. We finished by grabbing a selection of amazing food and enjoying it with a glass of wine. A wonderful and knowledgable guide of the food and the city.

Highlight of our trip
Oct 2019
The pasta making class and food tour of Bologna were highlights of our trip to Italy! The pasta was so delicious it became our benchmark to compare all other pastas. Helena is so knowledgeable and helped us see things we never would have found on our own. Highly recommend any of her experiences to anyone traveling to Emilia-Romagna.

Authentic, informative gastronomic tour!
Sep 2019 • Friends
It was an early day for this tour but all worth it! We had to start early as the cheese maker starts their day early daily. It was an eye opener watching the whole process of cheese making. Helena picked authentic and specialised makers to work with and that was what we loved as opposed to a very commercialised tour! We went to an organic Parmigiano reggiano DOP farm where the milk they used for the cheese comes from their own cows and also visited a niche DOP balsamico producer. Didn’t know how good balsamic vinegar can be Nor how expensive it can get! The owners trusted Helena very much and her autonomy to be able to bring us abt freely within the compound was defo a plus compared to big tour groups that could possibly add limitations. Thank you Helena for sharing your knowledge and the great experience!

Excellent Food Tour with Yummy Italy
Sep 2019
If you are passionate about good food and quality ingredients then this tour is for you. Helena is extremely knowledgeable about the history and foods of Italy. We spent two days with her and came away with a new found appreciation of where our food comes from. The trip to the dairy to see the process by which Parmesean Reggiano cheese is made was amazing and the cheese delicious. We also visited a balsamic vinegar producer to observe and taste the process of creating quality Balsamic vinegar.

The walking tour of Bologna was informative on many levels. We saw how and where the locals purchase their foods and had the chance to taste a variety of local specialites.

Helena also gave us great recommendations of where to eat as she is well aware of which restaurants are using quality ingredients. Every recommendation was spot on. She even shared her family recipe for ragu. I would recommend these tours to anyone who appreciates good food and historical context.

Excellent Food Tour in Bologna!
Jul 2019
Yummy Italy and Helena are definitely a recommendation for anyone staying in Bologna. I was traveling through Italy with a group of 9 adults and 1.5 year old. I was a little concerned about taking a group this size on a food tour, especially with a young baby, but Helena was so accommodating, kind and she knew her stuff!!

We had a few stops through the food tour, learning about eating culture, background and cuisine of Emilia-Romagna. Helena was knowledgeable, easy to talk to and was willing to go with the flow of the group. Everyone in our group definitely enjoyed themselves.

Would suggest the tour for anyone who will be in Bologna!

AMAZING Experience with Yummy Italy!
Jun 2019 • Couples
This was our first trip to Italy and I must say the planning focus centered on food for us. After a very exhaustive search on line I feel very fortunate to have found Helena, with Yummy Italy - a consumate professional with the credentials to support her vast knowledge on myriad topics of food, wine, and balsamic experiences. We began with a delightful food tour. We met in one of only two proper coffee houses wherein Helena described how the various food regions came to be while enjoying a fantastic cup of coffee. On our tour we sampled so many delicious meats, cheeses, and treats while Helena shared valuable information on proper techniques for tasting and discerning nuances of various foodstuffs. So much interesting history and fun dialogue on the way, too. After the tour, it was time for lunch before our next adventure. Helena had gathered an assortment of foods for our picnic style lunch and we were already feeling like we'd had enough to eat. However, my husband and I forged ahead and were rather surprised at how we managed to polish it all off with a delicious, light white wine and fresh apricots from the market.

Next, we were off to Modena to learn the proper techniques for tasting balsamic vinegar. Wow! What a treasure trove of information learned with this fun experience! It was certainly a good thing that we brought an extra suitcase to load up with our purchases!

The next day was devoted to a one on one pasta making experience for me with Helena. I had made pasta many times before but was only familiar with using a pasta machine. This was the real deal using a rolling pin and it is not as easy as one might think. However, the end result was nothing short of magnificent in flavor, texture, and presentation. The lunch that we enjoyed with Helena was easily our favorite meal while in Bologna and I look forward to recreating it for friends and family (once I master the rolling technique of course!). Thinking about booking an event with Yummy Italy? Just do it, you will not be disappointed!

In summary, I highly, highly recommend Helena, and Yummy Italy. We truly wanted to learn how to properly appreciate the products of Italy, and in particular the Emilia Romagna region, and we were not disappointed. We would happily participate in another class or experience with Helena without thinking twice.

Exploring Bologna with a Yummy Italy Expert
Jun 2019 • Friends
Yummy Italy is the Foremost provider of quality travel experiences in Emilia Romagna. Last week Yummy Italy showed three of us the culinary excellence in Bologna as well as sharing historical facts. We tasted Prosciutto Crudo, Parmigiano Reggiano, more meats, cheeses, and desserts. We had excellent coffee and even did balsamic oil tasting. We made our own Piadini in the covered market and ate and drank at the oldest bar in Bologna. It was a wonderful day we will never forget. I will use the services of Yummy Italy once again, maybe truffle hunting next time. Thank you to Yummy Italy and Riccardo! Grazie Mille!

I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Ricardo, did a fabulous job informing us about the history of some of Italy’s tastiest foods. We had a great walking tour through Bologna visiting various food merchants, shops, and eating establishments. The food, the history, the people - molto buona.

Wonderful Day in Bologna
Mar 2019 • Couples
We did not have much time to explore Bologna. The tour was both educational and delicious. Helena was able to customize the experience to include tasting the local food and wines of the region. Everything was well organized and we were able to complete the walking tour in 4 hours. We would highly recommend Yummy Italy!!
