Beautiful gorge and waterfalls and a workout.
Jul 2021
Beautiful hike. We did not rush or stop but it took us about 2 hours to go the 3.5 km up to the "dam". The last .5 km is the steepest. At the dam, you can look up to see the forest which they used to log and send the trees into the gorge. They used the dam to collect water and then open the gate below to release a enough water to push the logs down the gorge. It has not been maintained since the 60s. We did not do the additional .5 km loop. It took about 1.5 hours to get back. Great hike. We should have come prepared with water shoes and maybe swimwear.

When in the area you should definitely pay a visit. A raging Almbach, playful waterfalls, and stunning colors.
(Make sure to bring cash for the ticket machine)

Visit the canyon and have then a good meal in the Gasthof Kugelmühle
Jun 2019
The Almbachklamm is an exciting canyon you can walk throug, with stairs and bridges.
But remember: you need cash because there is no internet possible and no payment by card. Entrance € 6, you need strong boots, the way may be slippery. The visit takes through the canyon and back about 2 and a half hours. When you are back at the entrance, there is the Inn Kugelmühle where you can have an excellent meal all day long, but remember no cards!
No wifi !!!

Stunningly beautiful
Jul 2019 • Couples
This gorge is incredibly beautiful! Too many waterfalls to count, sparkling pools, just amazing. I have a bad leg and didn't quite make it to the top. Most of the paths are fairly easy, but there are quite a few stairs and about 3/4 of the way, my leg was pretty much done with stairs. I waited on a bench (there are benches throughout the journey) for my husband to get to the top and meet me on the way back down (you come down the same way you went up). Not challenging at all for anyone in normal condition. Definitely worth it!

Refreshing
Jul 2019 • Family
We stopped by on our way on the German A8 and the Austrian A1 motorways. The fresh air and the diversity of the gorge was highly refreshing. We arrived early and enjoyed the lonely walk.

Most amzing Klamm ever!
Jun 2018
I've done the Almbachklamm many times! It's a klamm with lots of variety, first the gorge with lots of powerful water followed by the waterfalls. Just before this waterfalls you can go into a dark forrest, on top you have a church and a cafe. Go down thru the fields with amazing views back to the parking lot. This is really my most favourite walk!

Great way to spend a morning & lunch
Jul 2018 • Family
This was way better than expected and exceeded all our expectations. It was easy to find via Google maps, and just 25 min from Salzburg. Parking was plenty and easy. We were thrown off at first by the charge for a hike, but the family that runs the place worked with us (larger group of 10) to give us a family, kid & group discount. After starting the hike, I can totally understand why they need to charge something. There is a lot of trail maintenance & support they need to do to keep it all safe. The hike was perfect — sunny and warm and you can go up the gorge as far as you want. Each turn has great views and I must have shot 50 pictures of the water, the cliffs and the kids. We hiked 1 hour up and 45 min down, but you can go as far or a little as you want. Afterward, the meal at the hof at the bottom was one of our best yet this week. They have a local version of schnitzel — stuffed with ham, onion and local cheese which was excellent. Others had the local trout. Then, the deserts were great, including the famous Bavarian windbag. BE sure to check out the stone mill, which has an interesting history. Really great trip overall. We were there from roughly 10-2 and really enjoyed the whole time.

Easy walk up a gorge with waterfalls and plunge pools
Jun 2018 • Couples
There was plenty of free parking in the parking lot. We walked to the entrance and paid our 3 Euro admission fee. The water-level seemed quite low, and the river not much more than a stream.

At the start of the walk there is a large wooden statue of a Salamander. Apparently a rare species can be found in the gorge but we were not lucky enough to see one.

The gorge is quite narrow with steep sides, but the purpose built path makes for easy walking and feels safe. There are many steps and bridges criss-cross the gorge at various points giving some good views of the falls which must be spectacular when the river is in full flow.

Mobility issues led us to turn round at the half-way point, but we really enjoyed the walk.

It does not feature in amongst the top places to visit near Berchtesgaden....which is really surprising..it's a gem to walk thru the gorge...it's a bit rocky trail all the way up...you are get into water and it's simply refreshing... trek all the way up for some amazing views of Klamm

Wonderful
Aug 2017 • Friends
My friend who lives in Germany took me there for a nice little hike.

I had a wonderful time at Almbachklamm.
Beautiful nature, rushing river, waterfalls, vibrant forest, hills & mountains.

Along the path they are several fun things to do (pose with a giant wooden lizard, climb on the moving iron dice, go through a tiny waterfall which is on the pathway & get wet twice :)), lovely views, fresh air and stunning hike.

Definitely worth the visit!
