The Abbey has an interesting and well preserved architecture. Its location on a small hill on the plain where the Ticino river flows and the context of a medioeval neighborhood makes it particularly fascinating and evocative of a far from today life time.

We visited the cloisters and some exhibition of stories from the archives during a busy festival. The place is so nice and pleasant, and well kept, and volunteer staff so kind and serious that you happily accept overpriced herbal tea from a standard, if good, global supplier as part of an "archeogastronomy" experience alongside mead, spices and preserves from more... When we went it was cold, in fact it was snowing, but the building is beautiful and has that old world charm about it. Only downside despite the fact that we could only see part of the outside of it. Was the fact that we were subjected to Greensleeves on the bells at 5am. We stayed in the hotel directly... More

The basilica is rich with tiny treasures if you are lucky enough to find it open. Fortunately the XII century bricks structure has not been altered in the ages, it has some Gothic influence, its shape hasn't got the sweet Romanic style one would expect in that particular age.

After having visited la Certosa di Pavia, even though I was quite disappointed because of the bad state, this abbey didn't transfer much to me. First of all on the contrary of la Certosa di Pavia, there is an entrance fee, good for the abbey maintenance. Very small abbey, but it worth a visit. The location is magnificent, peaceful Italian... A fantastic place. We cauld say: "Bask to the Past". Inside we a very interesting museum regarding the the Abbazia life in the meddle age: food, cooking, energy, water, architecture, etc You must visit it. Good restaurants in the square and very good "Agriturismo" restaurant in the neighborhood

The abbey is located on the banks of a small river. The town itself is small, but full of character. There are big parking lots (prepared for season based religious travelers), 2 restaurants and a neat hotel. The abbey is well kept. It is for sure a good stop for a few hours on the way from Milan to any... More
