On the Via Francigena
Apr 2019 • Friends
This church is on the outskirts of Acquapendente and you pass it on your walk out of town. I stopped to have a look and I must say on entering it was not a warm feeling. The church felt deserted. Little if architectural significance.

Nice church with a Romanesque crypt
Feb 2018 • Friends
The church is so called so because it was built like the one in Jerusalem. Though Baroque, it still contains an interesting Romanesque crypt dating to the 11th century.

Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre!
Oct 2017 • Solo
Roman Catholic Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre, built in the Romanesque style and the original structure dates to the 12th century. Several revisions are done in the Neoclassical style. The crypt portion of the building dates to the 10th century and contains a blood stained stone said to originate from the Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem.

A cathedral of immense proportions but little architectural merit
Sep 2017 • Friends
We visited on the way past on a walk along the Via Francigena towards Rome. Apart from rows of simple pews, there is little of note in this cathedral to see, apart from giant easels containing lovely petal paintings with a narrative, that featured in a competition relatively recently. The much vaunted bust of an earlier Pope (that is apparently held here) was nowhere to be seen. A peaceful place to pause but nothing of architectural merit to praise.

Important stop on the pilgrim's way
Apr 2016
Ancient church that was one of the stops of pilgrims traveling to Rome. The center of Acquapendente, a beautiful town south of Val d'Orcia. We chanced upon the town on a drive up SR2 & have returned several times. Wonderful piece of real Italy.
