Fantastic Experience

Great old castle that Sean is in the process of rebuilding.
He gave us a great talk on the history of the castle and even entertained us with his tin whistle.

If Walls Could Talk...

This is the real thing, a really atmospheric place! Seán and the castle brought me back centuries much better than any audio visual experience. His dedication to the preservation of this building is most impressive. If you'd like a non-touristy visitor experience, it's highly recommended.

Best Castle Around The Area
Aug 2021
Sean is a great host and really made the castle come to life with its history and his graciousness. He also played some music for us. Lovely castle and a lovelier owner.

A fantastic stop and detailed history with views for miles.

When you're traveling with older teenage kids Leap Castle might be JUST what you need to bring a little extra excitement to their day. Our wonderful tour guide Mike, from Carrig Coaches found this gem for us after I told him that my kids thought a spooky experience might be fun.
From the time we arrived it was a fantastic experience. Sean is the owner, renovator, and caretaker of this property. We had a nice chat with him as we stood in the large first room of the castle. He was a walking history book with interesting information you the property, the people who lived there and the lifetime of the building. Once we heard the background Sean invited us to have a look around. The kids (18, 20, 22) were off quickly up the ancient stone staircase. The little rooms, dark hallways, mystery 'pits; and doorways were intriguing. ( and spooky)
I can't deny once in the dark round staircase it was a bit unnerving. Our guide had mentioned that some people had seen 'unexplained' things in the house. The top tower room had magnificent views. This alone made it worth the stop. Sean had also appointed a room in the tower with some interesting historical finds and pieces.
I don't recommend this site for younger or impulsive children that you might not be able to keep a very close eye on, there are spots that might be a little dangerous for them. At the end fo the visit Sean treated us to some traditional music. The entrance fee is a donation to the refurbishment project Sean has been working on. For four of us I donated 40 Euro. (though he only suggested 7 each)
Give yourself about 60-90 minutes for this stop, and don't be surprised if your tour guide seems a little reticent to follow you inside.

Absolutely brilliant

So much history. What a gorgeously historic place. From the very unassuming drive in to knocking on the door and not knowing what to expect. Invited in by Sean who lives there and has restored the place over the last couple of decades. Sean is very knowledgeable about his history and is happy to share some great stories about the area and it's great to hear about the various entities and energies that still enhabit the place. You're free to roam around the upper floors on your own and your get a real sense of the castle for yourself. Seas was very welcoming and played some music for us while telling us about the history that surrounds the vast building. Definitely worth a visit i can't wait to go back when I have more time to roam around.

Quite the experience, in many ways.

No cafe. No restaurant. No bookstore. No food court. No gift shop. No souvenir program. Free parking. And a very nice elderly man who may play music for you during your visit. Bring a flashlight. This is a multi-level castle, and some levels have been (slowly) restored, others, not yet. The castle has quite a history, but Sean explains that the current resident spirits are good spirits and not malevolent, and therefore while spirits live there, the castle is not haunted. If the weather is good, the view from the top level is magnificent. You should be in good physical shape in order to climb the stairs, there is no elevator (or escalator). Consider making a contribution to the restoration fund, there is no admission fee, and this is a private residence.

Not the typical castle visit
Oct 2019
Visiting Leap Castle is not the typical castle visit as this is a privately owned residence. The owner, Sean Ryan, is restoring the castle himself so that makes it more personalized to visit. Sean invites you in to sit by the fire and then you wander around the castle on your own. I had read a lot of the history of the castle beforehand but experiencing it firsthand was very interesting. The castle is enhanced by Sean's interesting and eclectic collection of furniture and decor which makes it even more interesting.

Great owner with lots of info on the castle ! Great time ! Spooky in the upper level especially with the flash lights !
He doesn’t have a set price for a tour of the place but we gave him a donation for his time and view of the place !
Super fun ! Watch some videos about it before going it will add to the fun.
