The battery is located on a high position set back from the coast and provides a great example of coastal defensive gun emplacements that were prevalent along the Atlantic coast. There are three guns left in their locations. There wasn't a lot of placarding or...More

The last remaining big guns on the Normandy coast. Four German casemates and three guns still intact - built to guard against attacks from the sea. The guns are arranged in a semi-circle to maximize the distance they could fire to the east and west....More

I visited with my wife and two of my kids (15 and 11). For me, this gave some real insight into what the Normandy conflict in WW2 may have been like. These giant guns pointed at the beach. Fortified batteries with slivers of openings for...More

If you have any interest in the events of World War II, this is a must-see site. All the gun emplacements are still in situ, along with some of the guns too. Breathtaking scenery too.

Loved this site, was amazing seeing the size of the battery and it’s guns, was fairly quite when we were there, not sure why someone on here said there was no information about the location as I found plenty.

This stop to see the German battery, bunkers and learn first hand some of the WWII history, is really worth the stop. Walk out to the cliffs and imagine the history - very moving and interesting to anyone.

We stopped here to look at the gun batteries from WW2, which are still located in their bunkers for you to walk round. Entry, and parking was free, and there are also great views out over the cliffs.

We had not planned to visit the Battery but glad we did. It was a stark reality check of the destructive armaments used by both sides in WWII. The huge German gun embankments complete with guns are definitely worth a visit. We followed the signs...More

The Longues Battery is really an open site without an enclosure so you can visit it practically anytime. However there are guided tours and you should write to the website and ask about that. Drive up to the coast and... More

To my recollection, there were not holes on the top of all of them. The worst was battery 4 which was severely damaged when ammunition for the German AA gun exploded. The guns were disabled by the British battleships Ajax... More
