We decided to visit after a friend recommended it. Never heard of this place but glad we visited right at the end of the season. One of the fields had already been harvested but the other fields further up were in full purple bloom. We arrived early as I was told the car park fills up quickly. The admission fee was reasonable enough and the staff were helpful & friendly.

The place was quiet and you felt you had the place all to yourself. It's not all that big but plenty of space for everyone to walk in the fields. There are plenty of bees around but it was n't a problem. There is a cafe & gift shop but it is very expensive. They also run a tractor train for the little ones for a small fee.

The farm is situated right on the corner of 2 mini roundabouts which is very easy to miss depending where you came from. It is only open during the summer months so check before you go.

Watch out, the staff regularly overcharge in this shop for items you have nit bought. This happened twice to me but I over heard it multiple times in the shop. Their excuse is that they pressed the wrong button. The second time they did this to me I only had two items and thankfully I quizzed the member of staff before I paid.

I have a good mind to call the police on this establishment.

Sorry Helen but we refute this nasty allegation. It is groundless. All of our staff are trained to be polite courteous and we have invariably found them to be honest and trustworthy. If you had concerns then you should have addressed them at the time of your visit rather than post this hostile and incorrect allegation on a social media platform.

The lavender fields were lovely, but we overheard the male staff making fun and laughing at the hat I wore that protects me from sunlight because of my photophobia. I needed to use the disabled toilets but there was not any toilet roll or hand sanitiser. Finally we bought tickets for the train and notified the driver. He told us they were not moving for half an hour. When we went to get on there wasn’t any space. We got a refund but it was badly organised., plus we were told it was a tractor but it wasn’t, it’s a noddy train for kiddos. So to sum up, incompetent staff everywhere apart from the cafe and the person directing the cars.

Sorry to hear that complaint. It is unacceptable to hear that staff have not been respectful and if you would write to info@mayfieldlavender.com with any descriptions of the staff involved we will investigate. I can only apologise for any offence caused on this occasion as our staff are normally courteous and polite. Our land train is a tractor with a wooden frame in the shape of an older fashioned train. It draws two carriages with space for adults and children. Sorry if there were people ahead of you in the queue but we operate a normal queuing system and we must serve those who are waiting in line to board.

So lovely to visit the lavender fields and walk through on the public footpath which we have done for several years for FREE as it's a public right of way.

Not too happy about the slightly misleading signs and stern staff on the foot stiles trying to direct us and make us pay when we were sticking to the path.

They seem to get worse every year.
If you stick to the path you are entitled to visit and take photos unless they would like to erect 20 foot fences either side of the path to block your view.

Pay though if you want to park, run down the aisles of lavender or visit the shop and facilities.

Thank you for your comments. However I am not sure why you have rated our farm as you did not pay to come into it as a visitor. As far as I can see from your review you walked through the middle of the field took some photos and then left. You seem to be offended by being asked if you were coming onto our land to visit. I’m sorry if this offends you but we have staff posted to check if those people who wish to come into our farm wish to pay the entrance fee at the point of entry. They are polite and friendly even when people try to use the public footpath as a free entry point to enjoy our farm. This exploits the efforts of our family to present something beautiful and also mocks all of the paying guests who recognise that we run a small family business and are happy to support us.

Really chilled visit. Had a lavender lemonade and cupcake with a beautiful view of the fields. It smells amazing from the moment you open the car door.

£4 to get in seems fair. Staff all very helpful. Café has lots of tasty treats and plenty of benches to sit on.

The lavender fields are lovely but quite expensive if you add in parking and entry for a family. You can however enjoy them for free though if you stay on the public footpath that runs right through the middle of them. You must remain on the path however and not walk through the actual lines of lavender or visit the facilities and shop etc . But if you just want a trip to view the lavender, stay on the path and take a few photos and go for a walk it's lovely. You get to the public footpath over a stile and it's situated opposite the entrance to the cafe at oaks park. Lovely walks from here too.

Thank you for your review. However entry costs £4 per adult and children up to 16 are free. Parking is also free so we are a bit perplexed to see you listing entry costs for a family and parking charges as being expensive. For two adults to visit with two children the cost is £8 and there is no further charge unless you wish to visit the shop or cafe In the normal manner. Also it costs just £2 for a ride on the tractor train around the field. Entry through the centre of the field is monitored during the season so the same charges apply if you choose to enter that way. Thank you 🙏

Visited with a friend and had the most relaxing time. The Lavender looked sensational and the wild flowers too. We had delicious toasted cheese sandwiches with Lavender Chutney. A fab place to visit with children.

Visited early in the week before the crowds came. Great venue that is well organised and maintained! The lavender is absolutely lush and fabulous to watch the bees and butterflies at work! I treated myself to a lavender cider which was unusual but nice. Staff were absolutely fantastic and a real credit to your business. Big shout out to the young man at the gate and the lady serving the drinks who both took my photos and a big shout out to the team in the shop especially jess who had excellent customer service and was knowledgeable and friendly
See you again!

The visuals are stunning, you have to be there to experience it. Yes photos do not lie but one must experience it. A £4 entry fee is ok but the problem is parking. We did not get parking on site so had to pay £5 for parking in nearby area. Some of my tips/improvements: -
1) To get parking on site, come early; say within one hour of opening or come at 12:30 or 1 when people of morning batch are leaving.
2) The toilets are a mess. These are the mobile toilets, right at the entrance. Not sure how often they are replaced/cleaned. We were greeted by rotten smell of human waste. First impression is lasting one; and this was awful.
3) The car coming in/out creates lot of dust in the air. Specially at the entrance of the field, its a lot.
4) The fields hold stunning views but I could not smell any lavender. If you are a photo freak come prepared, may be different clothes, hats so you could experiment with photos.
5) Provision of food is ok, I will not complain. The gift shop seemed a bit expensive. But then you do not expect this site to remain operational throughout the year, so maybe the expense.
6) There were some undesirable weeds. There are ones where the entire body of the plant have fine hairy spines. I brushed my knee against it and it kept itching and flaring for rest of the day. The other weeds are ok but these must be removed. Be careful when you walk around.

Thanks for a well written and thoughtful review. Basically you have good points about everything but there are a few factors to contend with that might help explain a few points. We are not allowed to change the entrance or build a permanent toilet or a solid road surface to suppress dust as we are in the green belt of London so we are stuck with making the best of what we have. It seems you arrived on one of the 4 busiest days of the year (weekends in mid July). In terms of busy times we try to make it as clear as possible that a weekend in July is going to be very busy and if possible to come on a weekday when it is significantly more relaxed. We clean our toilets religiously throughout the day but when it is 28 degrees they are not odour free unfortunately. We farm organically so we don’t use any chemicals. The upside is diversity of plant and insect life but the downside is control of grass and weeds. When the weather is such a mix of rain and sun it becomes like the tropics where everything grows so quickly. We just don’t have the resource to cut every weed by hand several times per week but we try our best to maintain the field as much as possible. Sorry that you brushed against a nettle. We know the sting is irritating. I hope that gives a balanced perspective and thank you for your constructive review.
