We roamed around here just to see the craziness. Lots of people and we felt quite safe. I have to say we were only here until about 9:30 PM , so I wouldn't be surprised if it here seven more seedy the later it is. Definetly worth a visit though.

When you say 'red light district' you may be thinking "danger, danger!" However, we stayed in this area and walking through it was fine; it was sensory overload at first, but you get used to it and just go about your ways... I did not feel unsafe, nor did I ever feel like there was too much 'sex' open to... More

We were here looking for some where to eat... lots of choices. We had a little trouble with with our meal... with the sign language and our interpretation we thought we were paying an amount for the four of us. We were confused when the staff kept asking us if we wanted anything else to eat. Ended up being an... More

Shinjuku is a great location to have as a base for visiting other areas of Tokyo. It becomes a different environment in night though, there are lots of Girly bars which attract those that want to drink a great deal.We never felt pressured, but beware of the guys outside of the cafes and " other beauty establishment" who try to... Safe place to explore in the daytime and evening, but come the early hours of the morning (walked through at midnight) the africans arrive and you will be harassed if you're a foreigner. Don't let them lead you anywhere under any circumstances, you'll surely be scammed. It's a shame because i wanted to spend more time here, but the aggressive... More

By Japanese standards this place isn't safe. Doesn't look clean either. Lot of lights, worth a quick visit

basically an area filled with KTV clubs - all non japenese women as japanese women reserved for japanese people only (so unless you can speak japanese you will not get any japanese women) . So nothing spectacular in that respect. However the lights and atmosphere is quite the sight to see and feel. Prices are higher than average compard to... More

Definitely worth a walk through, but keep your street smarts about you. It's not like Amsterdam where you see women dancing in windows. You don't see much of anything in Kabukicho. What you do see is a ton of lights, music and people walking about. Watch out for the Nigerians. They will hassle you to no end to try and... More

Kabukicho is Tokyo’s most famous entertainment area. If you are looking for around the clock entertainment – this is the perfect location for you: hundreds of restaurants, coffee shops, movie theaters, convenient stores – all within a five-minute walk. If you are looking for a more quite place to stay, or a place really close to a central train station... More

I've played numerous games that star this district, I've read so much about it, it is the subject of many pieces of media and texts, Kabukicho is simply legendary for good and bad reasons. To begin, nobody should hassle you if you're a foreigner and you act with politeness and courtesy; if you are being hassled, chances are you are... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
