About
With a history of more than 400 years, the garden had in the past been the property of various known samurai lords. The 10-acre-ground features several ancient stone lanterns, scarlet bridges over koi ponds, a stone garden, waterfall, as well as a myriad of flowers and rich foliage that bloom or change colors from season to season. While nestled in the heart of this busy city, the quiet and peaceful ambience that enfolds the expanse provides a moment of repose to hotel guests and visitors alike. We hope you will come and enjoy the Japanese aesthetics and seasonal features when you come to stay with us or dine at our restaurants.

We had 2 Visits to New Otani within a month, so had ample opportunity to enjoy this Garden.
Go when the weather is kind and take your camera.
Delightful spot.

Large garden on property to walk in, many beautiful ponds and waterfalls. There are a couple restaurants tucked in the back of the gardens as well.

Went for a walk in the park. It was very beautiful. Then went for a tea in the cafe overlooking the park. Ask for a window seat. Nice but expensive experience. (Walk in the park free though)

Business
I went on a business trip to Japan and stayed in the new Otani.
In the first days I was just able to admire the garden from my window but finally was free to enjoy a nice walk in it.
It’s really good to relax after spending some time in busy Tokyo

The hotel gardens are beautiful both to spend time in, and also looking out over from the Garden Lounge Restaurant in the hotel itself.

As I write this review, TripAdvisor's overall rating is 4.5. I think it is very accurate and I have nothing I could say otherwise.
I would say that YOU MUST take a walk through it before you leave the Otani. The Japanese do gardens better and unlike anyone else. I just loved the water fall and fish ...

Actually belongs to the hotel but it's open to guests as well. It is a typical Japanese garden. A little tricky to find, there is an entrance at the second floor, hidden at the very back left of the atrium and the main entrance at the 5th floor where you have to walk through the whole hotel about 100m to find it but you will be guided from signs .
It is worth a visit if you have time.

We really chose this hotel for the beautifull japanese garden of the picture; and it really is a beutiful one including the cascade, the ponds with kois, the little bridges and pathways to stroll.
The hotel is a deluxe one with what we suppose was the original tower and a second tower, the Garden Tower (or viceversa) where we stayed. It is also a Convention Center and as expected, has several top restaurants in the premises.
Price was the same as other Tokyo hotels (where we have stayed) which fell far-far behind in room quality and size and facilities in general.
Of course, in room tea-coffe making, nice toiletries and complimentary newspaper. Additional note: check in was in the 6th floor of the Garden Tower as the lower floors have different uses as convention center, conferences, etc.
Hotel is a short (5 minutes) walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke Subway Station (not access free with JR pass), fare of 170 yen from Tokyo Station, half a dozen or so, stops.
The hotel lies besides the Akasaka nebourghood, which comprises several streets full of restuarants, cafes, bars, etc, reasonably priced.
It has an office complex just accross the street with more nice restaurants and finally, it is tucked within the Chiyoda City high rise buildings. All in all, a very nice environment.

It’s quite a maze to actually get access into the garden - access is via either the 5th or 6th floor. It is stunning how they are able in incorporate such a beautiful garden amongst the “concrete jungle” especially with the large waterfall in the middle. Definitely worthwhile spending some time here, although beware, there are insects here during summer and a few of us were bitten including myself. Might be a good idea to spray some insect repellant on your body if you visit during warmer months and are prone to being bitten. There are restaurants in the area of the garden, although these were not open yet when we visited in the late afternoon. Will visit this garden again if we are in the area.

Is this worth visiting in winter since nothing is in bloom?

We were there in April when the garden was mostly green, with splashes of colour from azaleas & irises. Stunningly beautiful. Personally I'd love to see the garden again in winter with frost sparkling in the trees or a sprinkling of snow dusting what is essentially a typically evergreen garden, with wonderful structure. The layout of the garden was beautiful looking down from our room & a serene oasis of green to walk through, I'm sure it would be no different in winter. In fact I'd imagine a winter wonderland.
