One of the very best Japanese "strolling gardens" in Tokyo, especially in November and early December when the maples are at their reddest.

Rikugien is lovely and peaceful. Access is easy...exit 2 at Komagome- Namboku line. The stairs bring you up to the entry gate. The 300 yen fee is a bargain. There was a free traditional show the Monday I visited. Plenty of benches are provided so...More

One of the best traditional gardens has somehow survived Tokyo building up around it. Areas of the garden adhere to principles of waka poetry, which results in the garden feeling very traditional and picturesque. I'm sure I took 100+ photos. Its a park rather than...More

Very nice traditional Japanese garden nearby JR and subway stations. No entrance FYI Is considered to be one of the best gardens in Tokyo. In reality gardens in and nearby Kyoto are probably even more impressive.

I have a soft spot for Rikugien gardens, especially in the fall. It's not the largest garden in Tokyo but it is one of the oldest, founded 700 years ago, although most of the trees are from after World War II. It used to be...More

Very well presented gardens, all surrounding a large pond full of fish & turtles. Nice place to take a sandwich and escape the city for a while.

This garden is quite hidden, and I had to ask a couple of people where it was but it only makes it all the better for finding it! It is also one of the gardens that doesn’t seem to attract huge crowds, which is even...More

Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo is a circuit style daimyo garden with hills and ponds, it is one of the famous cultural heritage gardens.

Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several
thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores
and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and
gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at
the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a
landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium,
planetarium, theme park as well as an observation
platform. The popular name for the western side of
