We stopped here on our way south last weekend. Take the first signposted road direct to the salt works, if you want to do a tour of the works, just check before you make the trip south from Blenheim as it is about 30 minutes...More

Just an industrial zone, a lake clearly divided for production, no colour, don't waste your time and keep driving

If you like beach walking then keep going past Lake Grassmere to the end of the road. This a wild and secluded beach well worth the effort to visit.

the salt ponds at Lake Grassmere are a very unique location. Sea salt is gathered, purified and shipped from the facility

Stopped by on our trip south to show grandaughter the salt piles and explain how salt is made. Could see enough from the road to make the stop worthwhile.

The salt lakes go on forever. Amazing process. Couldnt see anywhere to do a tour. Impressive size of the operation.
