My girlfriend and me visited this beautiful castle in Alcalá la Real. To start it’s cheap, we paid €6. Second the audio guide is amazing. It takes on the story of a knight that visits the castle with his men and talks you through the...More
Great couple of hours spent investigating this old city built on the top of a rugged hill. Many different cultures from the Moors to medieval Spanish have left their mark on this location. Well worth a visit if nothing else to marvel at the views!...More
Alcalá La Real is near our base, so we visited on a sleepy Spring Sunday morning. There were very few visitors and we were able to have a good leisurely look round. It’s a fort complex overlooking the modern town below. It’s mostly walls, towers,...More

Well worth the 1.5hrs it takes to visit the remains of this fortified town. Complete with foundations of the houses that once stood in the town, it is worth the climb up the towers to obtain a 360 degree view of the surrounding country.

The car park is located at the foot of some steps up to the entrance of the fort. The steps are obviously uphill but are not too difficult, probably about 80 to 100 metres. Then there is a gently walk up to the main entrance to the fort of about another 200 metres . Once up the stairs the walk round the fort is flat and in most part accessible. There are a couple of towers which you may wish to miss out due to their difficulty but I think you would be able to manage the grounds of the fort and enjoy the atmosphere. Hope this helps.
