A peaceful walk
Aug 2020 • Couples
Having a walk in the old town is quite a peaceful activity after lunch near the lake. Walk with your own pace and enjoy the sunny day!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Jul 2018 • Couples
This is a very pretty little town at the end of lake Orta. We loved it most for the contrast with Orta san Guilio and Stresa (on lake Maggiore). Omegna is a local town full of local people doing their daily work, if you want to be treated as a tourist and isolated from rural Italy then visit Stresa, if you want to live like an Italian visit Omegna.

There are lots of summer activities to participate in or just soak up the atmosphere along the water front and in the little streets and shops. There are plenty of bars and cafe's, to just sit and watch the world go by. A few words of Italian will help, but smiling and pointing will get you through most situations.

We have returned several times during our stay, a great wine shop on via albergamti just up from the fruit and veg shop with a bakery opposite. There is a great butchers (macelleria) on the main road in from the north.

We will be back again soon.

A small town on the northern tip of Orta Lake
May 2017 • Friends
Beautiful small town with a cozy atmosphere and close to mountains worth of checking out. Used to be an industrial town before all the factoies closed and became a ghost town with a wonderful small church and a great view of the lake

Escaped by taxi instead of waiting for the train
Apr 2017 • Solo
I arrived by boat and was disappointed to see all the new buildings lined up along the shore in both directions, 5 or 6 floors high. The rest of the lake has quaint little villages and towns, but town planning here has let this little place down. I had a wander along the river towards the old town, and by chance found the taxi rank. Instead of waiting an hour in a cafe/restaurant and having lunch followed by taking the train to my next destination, I took a taxi and escaped. Do go to Lago d'Orta, but spend your time somewhere else. I didn't go on a Thursday, so I cannot comment on the market.

Nice Hangout
Jul 2016 • Family
Very nice place to visit. There is a little river that runs into d’Orta, with cute bridges and passageways that lead into a park. The buildings along the sides of it are also very pretty and have character. Additional bonus was that during our visit, they had a food fetival, Hop Hop Street Food. There were many international dishes being served right on the street with music playing and playground for the little ones. We very much enjoyed our time there. After purchasing some street food, we sat at the edge of the lake and had dinner. Great!

Hidden pearl on the lake Orta
Aug 2015 • Family
This hidden and quiet town is in the north of lake orta, the most romantic lake in italy. There are so many cafès and restaurants near the lake, a big playground for kids and a long way for bicycles. There is a boat who takes you to S.giulio island and to the beautiful town Orta s. Giulio. If you pay attention, you will see that the river Nigoglia which is getting out from the lake, is the only river that flows towards north. Highly recommended to everybody.

Cycling holiday + rented car
Jul 2015
Nice town which was our base to discover the area. We stayed 15 minutes walk from the centre in a nice, private apartment block, from where we had a nice view for the lake and mountains around. It is a good spot for budget tourist who want to visit the Italian lakes area by car. If you like road cycling, there is plenty of routes. The circle around Lago d'Orta is around 40km.

nice lakeside town worth stopping by if driving around the lake Orta
Jun 2015 • Couples
We decided to drive around the lake and stopped in this nice city as the weekly market was open. It is a lively affair and stretches along the lake for the length of the city. The old city is small but quite nice with an old church tucked away from the lake - find it by walking along the river that empties into the lake. The lake is quite clear and beautiful. There are nice cafes along the lakeside

Pretty lake
Jun 2015 • Couples
Visited the area briefly and wanted to check out lake Orta. We headed for the main town,Omegna, it was pretty and quiet. If you want a lakeside holiday then head to Lake Orta before it looses its charms
