We have used this ferry service before & know it's very efficient & very good. On this occasion we wanted to cross Lough Foyle in mid September - Tuesday 14th to be exact, so I rang in advance a few days before we travelled to check the times of the sailings & make sure the service would still be operating, as it was (amazingly) coming to the end of the season. I was assured all was ok, but on arrival at Greencastle for the morning sailing we discovered there were only Fri/Sat/Sun crossings, so we were 3 days too early! So we'd advise anyone to check & double check (even the evening before) to be sure of the ferry crossings.

I can only apologise and I have no idea where you got the misinformation that we would be sailing on the 14th September. All of our office personnel and crew were aware that daily sailings would continue until Sunday 13th September before moving to weekend only service. This is our regular sailing pattern throughout September and every employee of the company was aware of that. The information was available on our website, our social media and in email responses. Please contact us again directly to check sailings. Our website is the best place for information as the sailing status is updated if there is any interruption to our service and would have had the information you required available on it from early September. Thanks and hopefully we will see you again. Foyle Ferry

We used the ferry across to Greencastle. It was only a short crossing and not at all choppy! Using the ferry saved us a much longer journey around Derry/Londonderry to get up towards Malin Head in Donegal..Would recommend using the ferry for convenience. One just needs to check when it is running. There is no set timetable.

Took our motorhome on the ferry to reduce the travel time to Malin Head. €15 for a one-way ticket and it was definitely worth it. The views are beautiful and the time saving is great! Very smooth crossing and you can stand up on the viewing deck to take in the scenery.

I have always used this when the road connection between Magilligan and Greencastle is flooded. Just a pity it’s not on every weekend. Quick and efficient service

I've used it three times and I was first there as well. I only waited about half an hour. You can walk around the grounds and people waiting all chat. Very sociable

Does the ferry run in January? It appears to run on a seasonal schedule but the website isn't very clear. Thanks!

Where do we get on the ferry northern Ireland side
JaakkoTapio
Helsinki, Finland577 contributions
From Ireland (north west / Inishowen) cross over Foyle you will land opposite in N-Ireland, Magilligan Point/Port, which is at the coast of "nowhere", but have significant sights to the north, towards Atlantic Ocean. From Magiligan you just drive a few miles towards direction south, until you will reach road (A)2. From there a nice route to east / coastal road towards Coleraine, Portstewart, Portrush,,, towards Antrim Coast,,, Giant's Causeway & many interesting places to visit. Hope you will get a sunny and not windy day without rain.
