Interesting, full of nooks and crannies

It was fascinating wandering through the village, which seems more like a living museum. Well preserved rooms from a bygone age and ruins bundled together. Still recovering from the Aquila earthquake of 10 years ago. Glad we visited out of season.

Small village
Aug 2019
Our tour guide stopped us at this small village for an hour or so and we manged to walk around it all. There are some local shops but were informed that they aren't open all year round. There is also a hotel who would be interested to stay in a very beautiful quite village. Nice history if you find someone to explain it to you

Exceptional town.

Worth the detour. It's small and feels really old. Although it is primarily geared towards tourists, it works. It's quite evocative.

Nicely preserved medieval town
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is a small, but very well preserved, and very nice medieval hill top town. It is a great place to stroll around, with its many "mini-tunnels" under buildings to get from a to b, as well as its rather steep streets. Sadly, the emblematic tower did collaps during the 2009 earthquake, however, it is being rebuild, stone for stone with the original stones. Also several other houses still suffer damage from the earthquake, and are awaiting reconstruction of restoration. Even so, it is one of the nicer hill top towns in the region.

Step back in time and enjoy the views

Santo Stefano Di Sessanio is a Medieval clifftop village dating back to the time of the Romans. It has cobbled, quirky streets, arches, tiny passages and adorable shops (people’s front rooms really). It is a world apart from any city or town in the modern world and it whisks you away to a time before TV, the internet and fast food.

Don’t bother coming if you want it all and you want it now. Come if you want to escape the rat race. You won’t regret it. Heels are not of any use to you here. Flat, strong walking shoes or boots required.

Nice stop well in the Gran Sasso park
Oct 2018 • Friends
Stopped as we drove through Grand Sasso. Very nice small town with really cool shops, bed and breakfast. Damaged by an earthquake and being repaired. Wonderful feel. Middle of no where and beautiful views. Friendly shop owners. Worth a visit. The streets or lanes are really interesting. Attached a few photos.

Most picturesque village

Beautiful small village from 1200s. Very well kept with great hotels and restaurants. We did some hiking and visited other small villages in Abruzzo.

Fantastic little gem of a place
Jun 2018 • Couples
We booked a stay here through a voucher deal and didn't do any research before we left. However, we were stunned by the place. You can spend hours walking round the beautiful town, which is slowly being restored after the 2009 earthquake. There are lots of lovely little shops and a few restaurants and bars. It's in a beautiful location with mountains all around and stunning scenery within easy walking or driving distance. We will be returning next year!
