Gettung to Mt. Takao is very easy by taking the Keio Line from Shinjuku directly to Takaosanguchi Station. For those who have Japan Rail Pass can take the Chuo Line (Rapid) from Tokyo / Shinjuku to Takao and then change to Keio Line for one stop, or even take the Azusa / Super Azusa / Kaiji Limited Express change to... I visited Takaosan with my family in April. It took less tahn ne hour by car from Yokohama, but the way back on Sunday afternoon was nore than double of that. Parking was also difficult and expensive 2000 yen. The area around the train station is also crowded, but once you set off on to the mountain it becomes beautiful... More

A friend recommended us to go there for a day. We went on a Sunday during a festival. It was packed with people. Fortunately we bought some rice balls at the train station because there were long lines st the restaurant. We hiked all the way up to the top of Mt. Takao. We are late 60s and early 70s.... More

Beautiful mountain only about 50 minutes from Shinjuku station. Hiking up and down easily takes a few hours, but you can use the cable car or chairlift to shorten the time. I went on Thursday afternoon and there were only a few people I met on my way up and even less when I came down. Many smaller paths too... More

Took us an hour to reach the top. We Used cable car on our way up. There were many food stalls and temples along the way. We Headed back down using chairlift which provided great panoramic view of Tokyo. 登りが、モノレールで8分 (帰りはリフトで)そこから薬王院迄 15-20分、そこから山頂まで20分ほど 天気が良ければ、富士山も見えます

It's a good day trip hike up Mt Takao. Get the Mt Takao discount ticket (round trip train ticket + round trip/one-way cable car/chair lift ticket) and on your way. Mt Fuji is visible when you reach the summit. I took the one-way cable car up and came down by trail 4 which would encounter a suspension bridge. Overall a... More

I am an amateur radio operator and so I frequently go up there for the elevation it provides. Takao is an excellent day trip from Tokyo to experience some hiking or trekking to Mt. Jimba which is higher and about 10 kilometers from Mt. Takao. Well worth the visit and there is a cable car that tackles the hard part... More

If you love nature, this is suit for you! I spent more than 8 hours stayed on the mount Takao. There are not only nature but also have some local shops that you can buy some souvenirs.

Route 1 very busy and tiring downhill. Route 6 was a nice uphill. On march 12 there was a nice matsuri with religious people walking barefoot over warm ashes (loads of people)

Just outside of Tokyo this is a popular attraction for locals and visitors so avoid on weekends. Great walks to the top with english signed notes on displays. Another popular shrine is on this mountain and if you are lucky with the weather you can see Mt Fuji. They have a chairlift or tramway for the lazy to get you... More
