Casares castle is just the icing on the cake of a wonderful walk through an ancient town with lovely partly hidden small hotel. Park on the top road, take in the views of the castle the town and scenery ,walk down the steep steps past beautifully kept houses, the occasional small shop or cafe, then up more steep steps to... Make sure you go up in one of the Bell towers in the church to see the view. The museum was free and the artifacts are amazing. Be prepared the hills are very steep and you have to be able to walk.

Allow up to 3 hours for this fascinating "walk in the past". Park for free in the multi storey car park and take the lift to the 1st floor (which is the top floor!). Follow the signs to the centre of the village. As you enter the plaza go diagonally left up quite a steep incline. Catch your breath by... More

Drove up from Estepona to see this village in the mountains. Its a shorter moutain drive than visiting Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja. We walked round the town and up to the little castle. From the viewpoint you can also look down to the cliffs below - we saw hundreds of swifts (or martins?) flying in to perch on the... More

Having hired a car for a couple of days,we decided to drive up into the hills and mountains above Mijas. We headed first to Alhaurin El Grande,a nice looking town, then on to Coin, which was a bit built up for our taste but still quite pleasant. From there on to Monda, another small town, and onwards to Ojen,a pretty little place. We then decided to go... Food is simple but tasty and plentiful. Service is exceptionally friendly. Authentic Spanish simplicity. I would highly recommend especially the unique sangria

A lovely place to watch the sun set, relax and feel some history. There's a natural beach and a great Chiringuito called La Sal close by.

We visited in evening when the temperature had cooled a bit as parking is limited and you it's quite a climb up steep streets to get there. It's a stunning location with panoramic views both on the town and towards Gibraltar. The streets are quaint and picturesque and there's a main square where you can relax with a drink.

Not too far of the main A7 we found Casares just a short drive from La Duquesa – we’ve been before but just coming around the bend to see this white village seemingly perched on a rock. The white washed house are built into the hills and I just wonder how they manage to paint the exteriors ! You can... More
