Overview

With its pointed turrets standing out from the surrounding woods, the castle of Queen Margarita of Savoy looks straight out of a fairy tale. Though it was built on models of the late Middle Ages, it dates from the early Twentieth century. It was then equipped with the latest technical equipment of that time, and it is surrounded by a large park with all the dependencies and a rocky Alpine garden with many botanical species. The interior still shows part of the original furnishings: paintings, stained glass, wood panelling, coffered ceilings and furniture made according to the taste of the Queen, she is evoked in all its parts by the flower bearing her name. The tour includes the ground and the first floor, connected by a spectacular wooden staircase with griffins and eagles.

Seeing the shooting of a movie in these places can make your mind come back to daydreaming. What you see and what surrounds it can stimulate the imagination and tell stories of the regime but also of characters from the fantastic woods.

If you are visiting make sure to go to Gressonay which is a lovely village half an hour away. The castle is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. However my only complaint is that since the visit is guided one doesn't have the time to...More

Very nice palace that tells the big love of MARGHERITA for Gressoney and the Monte Rosa. The tour is guided by very competent people. Sure deserve a visit if you are in Gressoney

From Donnas Italy we drove the beautiful windy road (SR44) up to Gressoney & took a tour of castle Savoia. The tour is only in Italian. The views are just breathtaking. The whole drive up there & back made for a perfect day.

Went on a visiting tour, I happened to be the only guest and was taken around privately. A very interesting castle to visit knowing that the last queen Margarita of Italy reigned for 26 days before a referendum declared Italy a republic. She choose this...More

This place is fine to visit if the weather doesn't permit you to enjoy the mountains by means of hiking or skiing.

A 20 minute walk from the centre of Gressonney St Jean, which is worth a visit (delightful coffee and light lunch at the Cafe Pinter), the Castel Savoia is an impressive grey-stone, many-turretted 19th century castle built as a summer residence for Queen Margaret of...More

Good guide, despite limited English. On the other hand, he spoke better English than I speak Italian.

Just a normal old building. If you visit the area, the beauty of nature will take over everything
