2-Day Tour Rötenbach - Döggingen
Sep 2018
Myself and a group of friends did a two day tour here. We started in Rötenbach, followed the Rötenbach to the confluence with the Wutach. From there we walked the Wutachschlucht as far as Reiselfingen, where we spent the night. Our second day took us through the Wutachschlucht to the confluence with the Gauchach, and then up the Gauchachschlucht to Döggingen. The first days walking, from Rötenbach to Reiselfingen, was the "easier" of the two days. The paths were easily passable, and there weren't any large elevation gains/losses. Our "half-way" point was the Schattenmühle, from where we did a short side-trip up the Lotenbachklamm. The paths are varied (forest floor/rock/grass), and definitely require good hiking boots/shoes. We were all very impressed with the natural beauty of the area, with it's diverse landscape. Our second day took us from Reisefingen to Döggingen, passing through the Wutach- and Gauchachschlut. This stretch of the Wutachschlucht is known as the more "impressive" section, and so there were a lot more daytrippers out, making it a bit slow going on the narrower sections of the trail. When we turned off into the Gauchachschlucht, however, it became quieter again. The Gauchachschlucht is smaller, but no less impressive than the Wutachschlucht. All told, we hiked ca 35km over two days through an area of exceptional beauty in the Southern Black Forest. We would definitely recommend the trip, even if it is just a one day walk through one section. Just be aware that solid shoes are a must, especially if it has been raining, as some sections of the trail could be quite treacherous in wet weather.

Beautiful nature

A very nice hiking trip. It doesn't offer the same magic as higher mountain regions, but offers a wide range of natural environments and great views. The hikes are mid-level and could use some options to make the stages just a few miles longer to fill the day (now we were on average at 1pm at the next hotel including breaks).

The local cuisine in the region however lacks refinement and taste. The opposite of the beauty of the nature.
