Turin Shroud Cathedral
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is the site where the famed Turin shroud is kept. You can’t actually see the shroud but can look through a glass window at the container it is kept in. They also have an exact replica in this same display area plus a photo so that can get an idea of what it actually looks like.
You can take photos of this area but you cannot speak. The area is monitored by a security guard and a respectable silence is demanded.
The cathedral itself is beautiful and worth a quick stroll around. It’s not large so 5 minutes will cover it all to be honest.

I'm not religious, but this brought tears to my eyes

The church itself is beautiful, and sits adjacent to a wonderful park with remains from the original Turin fortress.
Though you can't see the shroud itself, there is a plethora of interesting information on the history of the shroud, including multiple TV screens with scrolling descriptions of the shroud itself. These are in Italian and English. The corner of the church devoted to the boxed shroud was designated a silent corner for reflection and prayer, and had a fabulous pamphlet in various languages, detailing the history throughout the years, as well as a condensed picture of the shroud and the images on it.
There was a very friendly volunteer who checked in with me (he only spoke Italian but we could communicate through signs) multiple times to ensure we were getting the most out of our visit.
I am incredibly glad to have visited this site & highly recommend including this stop in your Turin visit.

What amost beautiful and tranquil cathedral

Visited to see the Shroud of Turin. Beautiful church. The shroud kept out of view in a 4.4 metre long case with representation of the face imprinted on the shroud above. Large screen tv's with rolling script and pictures of the shroud around the shroud chapel in multiple languages; very informative.
A must do in Turin.
