A "perched" site like this easily provided the opportunity for the affordance of some worship
Mar 2017 • Friends
According to what the sources witness, the hill where this little church arises is worshiped since ancient times (perhaps the pre-Christian ones).
The signposts at the nearby road define tha chapel's construction as dated to the fifteenth century; but it was completely rebuilt after the 1846 earthquake that ravaged the region.
The "built form" in itself shows so modest historical interest, while the site's history.is significant.
But above all the church position is outstanding, since it allows, not so much from the church itself (the view is obstructed by trees), but from the underlying open space, sweeping views on a wide part of the country, going from Livorno hills to the Apuan Alps, from the "Monti Pisani" to the Gulf of La Spezia (Liguria).
You get the feeling that a "perched" site like this easily has provided in the past times the opportunity for the "affordance" of some worship
Even wider views, up to the ridge of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, are allowed by a scanic pedestrian circuit through fields and vineyards, which includes the church and connects two Casciana's hamlets, Ceppato and Sant'Ermo.
The circuit is described at the "cascianaturismo" website.

This is an excellent place to stop and gather your thoughts. There are benches to sit on and contemplate life.

Fabolus view on the countryside
Aug 2015 • Couples
Visiting Madonna de Monti is a precious experience, even if the sanctuary is closed to public and opened only on weddings and some religious holidays. In fact you can relax yourself looking down the countryside toward the nearby winery village of Sant'Ermo and Gello Mattaccino Castle and Orciano Pisano land. A sea breeze is always in this romantic site! Close your eyes and forget your worries. We love this place!
