About
Not all of the sites on Hadrian's Wall were heavily guarded fortresses. Corbridge was a supply base and bustling town where the Romans and civilians would pick up food and provisions. Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a true time-capsule of Roman life. You can see a valuable hoard of objects found during excavations, including Roman armour and trinkets, which provide a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier.

Well worth a visit
May 2021
We were pleasantly surprised when we visited this unassuming piece of history in Corbridge to find such an extensive site. The hand-held recorded tour guides were very informative but if you don't enjoy using them there are plenty of information boards around the ruins.
The shop and I door museum was very clean and the staff cheerful and helpful

Much more extensive than expected. Fascinating history, especially if you get to speak to the knowledgeable guide. Interesting museum with beautiful exhibits. Small souvenir shop. Toilets in car park. No cafe.

England's Herculaneum
May 2021
A very nicely set out Roman site with lots of useful information to help visitors appreciate what they can see.

It reminded us of Herculaneum - without the yucky bits.

The staff were very nice, extremely fluent in English - unlike those at the Other Place.

Interesting Roman site
May 2021 • Friends
Interesting Roman site, well signposted with info boards and a free audio guide with just the right amount of detail- enough to get a basic understanding of the site while you wander around but without being overwhelmed. Nice relaxed atmosphere, child friendly, parking, clean facilities, and really helpful and friendly staff.

Really enjoyable

We came here as we had an hour to spare passing through the area, normally I look at ruins and within a minute I feel I'm done, but following the audio tour was really fascinating and I loved it, took about an hour for the outdoor (covid) experience and it was just right.
The lady who was working there was very friendly and welcoming too

Nice addition to a scenic town

The museum inside was really well put together and outdoors it was a small but interesting site. One of the staff was telling us a lot about the history which was great for getting any questions answered.

Very informative, not at all dull - book first
Oct 2020
Really enjoyed the museum which was well laid out, informative and wide selection of found objects. The signs outside were good at sparking the imagination and ‘seeing’ the layout and who lived there.

You do need to book but its not complicated and very covid aware.

The best bit were the staff who were friendly and very efficient and effective. They were also very dog friendly. Only letdown was their shop. It was full of the normal type of souvenirs. I would have liked something more pertinent to Corbridge so I didn't spend anything but I would have liked to.

Fascinating insight into the evolution of a Roman town
Oct 2020 • Couples
We went because we happened to be near and weren’t expecting to be as interested in the town. The audio guide helps explain much about the town and there are experts on hand if you want to find out more. Well worth a visit
