Nestled amongst the stunning Southern hills of Lake Garda, in the heart of the historical centre of Lonato, lies the home of the Ugo Da Como Foundation with the castle (Rocca Visconteo Veneta) and the house-museum (Casa del Podestà). An evocative visit takes you through the furnished rooms of the house, also to a stunning library filled with a precious ancient book collection. The house is surrounded by splendid private gardens and the last step of the visit takes you up to the Visconti-Venetian fortress, admired by Napoleon.

Thoroughly recommend a visit to the Fondazione Ugo Da Como, a well presented collection of books and well preserved old house. It is still a mystery why anyone would want to recreate four different dining rooms from different periods of history but it is a very interesting collection. We had a great guided tour in English from a very knowledgeable... More

The Casa del Podesta is excellent and not to be missed. The volunteer guides are well versed. I think it was owned by a lawyer more philanthropic than most

We discovered the town of Lonato and it was quite exquiste. We visited the Fondazione Ugo da Como out of curiosity. Bought and maintained by a wealthy lawyer it has a wonderful and valuable library with an eclectic collection of antiques. The voluntary guides do a great job of guiding you around the museum. We passed some time on a... More

The castle at Lonato is a very interesting place and well worth a visit. However nearby there is the little museum of the fondazione ugo da como. small but full of interesting artefacts--feels more like a home than a museum. Worth visiting more than once

Highly recommended even if you do not speak Italian. We were escorted by an Italian guide and given a card in English that described each room quite well. The house is such a treasure packed with interesting art, furnishings, and objects that were used everyday. This would be our 'dream home', that is, if we could afford it. The only... More

The tours are only in Italian and it is necessary to follow a group. The house and library were nice, however the whole experience was spoiled by a very bossy and unpleasant guide. He wouldn’t let us to look into a different room (from the room we were in, through a door) or touch a booklet (displayed on the table,... More

Dear Sir, we’re so sorry for your discontent about your guided tour at our Foundation, that is used to be amazing for the visitors usually. All the couriers available for the guided tour in the House-Museum are volunteers from the Association “Friends of the Ugo Da Como Foundation” and they work absolutely free. Because of this, we couldn’t guarantee a... More
