Unique experience

This special place offers a splendid view for those brave enough to reach it. Small rooms with good beds. The hut feels a bit like a boat when it's windy. The food is excellent and served in large portions. Basic toilets as you can imagine at this altitude. Altitude might make you sick, so bring some paracetamolo with you.

Somewhere between very average and absolutely jaw-droppingly incredible

Where to start? The highest altitude building in Europe at 4554m. Astonishing that it is here at all. For Eu100 a night you do not however get running water. I mean, where would it come from? The hole in the floor toilets are somewhat gruesome. The equipment room is a total mess and urgently needs some modern day ergonomics. Indeed the hut is little changed since the late 90s refurb. The bunk rooms (and we conveniently had a 6 bed room for our 6 person party) were pretty good though lacking in coathooks for airing clothes. Why? Food is surprisingly good. A latter day installation of a dishwasher means proper crockery and cutlery are now used, and the chef did a good job. The common room is cosy and has a friendly buzz. The benefits? Enjoying unquestionably the greatest, most spectacular view in Europe for one thing. And sleeping on top of the 6th highest peak on the continent. All you have to do...…...is get there!

The Hut is just great. Food is amazing.
At 4,554 mts in the top of the summit, the refugee campana Regina Margherita is an oasis in the middle of the Alps.
