Walking the 2nd etappe of the Pieterpad long-walk it was a excellent chance for discovering this part of Holland. 21km walk from Wirsum to Groningen. Open fields and great atmosphere. Wonderful route.

A great way to see NL
Dec 2018
If you have the time, this one is awesome. I recommend to not do it in the summer months, as it is pretty full then. There is an official book (in Dutch) that describes the route, but you can also download GPS tracks.

I walked it in December of 2018 with my dog and made a YouTube movie out of it, in case you want to see it. There, I also rate which day had the nicest scenery, since that can vary drastically.

A beautiful walk through the Netherlands
Jun 2018 • Couples
The Pieterpad (LAW-9) is the popular 492 kilometer long-distance north-south walk of eastern Netherlands. It starts in Pieterburen in the northeast portion of the Netherlands and goes to Saint Pietersburg in the south, just past Maastricht. It also crosses into Germany several times in the southern half. Most walkers do only 1 or 2 etappes at a time and usually on weekends. Others do 7 to 10 etappes in a week based on their ability to walk faster and longer distances than recommended in the guidebooks. Some like us did the entire walk as 1 continuous trek. Its a beautiful walk. One passes through many small villages and only a couple of small cities. Most of the time, one is in natural areas or in farmland. If you like long-distance walking, this is one that you should do.

If you want to experience the Netherlands on a totally different level.
May 2015 • Friends
The Pieterpad or LAW9 is a trail that runs 492 kilometers (306 mi) from Pieterburen, in the northern part of Groningen, south through the eastern part of the Netherlands to end just south of Maastricht, on the top of Mount Saint Peter (St Pietersberg ). It is the most popular long-distance walk in the Netherlands and recommended if you want to know the Netherlands on a diferent, more genuine level. It goes from the flat, Protestant north to the hilly, Catholic south. Along the way you will find beautiful scenery, ancient megaliths, stately homes from the 18th century, medieval folklore, remnants of the industrial revolution and scars of World War II. And a lot of cows. In total, it is about a walk of three weeks. It is rustic, amusing, picturesque and sometimes breathtaking. Along the route are many facilities for sleeping and eating. Recommended for a foreigner who love hiking and culture.
