We stumbled upon this waterfall serendipitously in late afternoon, as the road to La Paz Waterfall Gardens was unexpectedly closed and we had to detour around the west side of Poás instead. In contrast to the crowds at La Fortuna waterfall, which we had visited...More

When we went, we were the only ones there. This waterfall is absolutely gorgeous and totally worth the hike down. The drive to get there is beautiful as well.

Though the town of Bajos del Toro is relatively close to San Jose (about 25 miles), you'll have to take the car up steep roads all the way outside the central valley. It should take you about 1:40 to arrive from Alajuela. The canyon formed...More

Apart from the beautiful landscapes on the way there (though windy road and not ideal for those getting easily car sick) it is well worth a visit! There are several waterfalls in the area, but this is for sure the biggest and most impressive. The...More

While I prefer to do the work at the beginning of the hike, this one takes you down first and back up at the end. It's well worth the effort.

We visited in late April and were surprised to find the trails almost deserted. Fortunately, someone was there to take our admission fees and point us in the right direction. Gorgeous waterfall, pictures really don't do it justice. We hiked to the bottom, and although...More

Amazing waterfall park and gardens! There were so many hummingbirds at the entrance, we got some lovely photos. The waterfall itself is spectacular and the climb to and from was moderate and rewarding. We saw a snake which was cool. Not too busy, well worth...More

Catarata del Toro is a wonderful waterfall to visit. The facilities are top-notch. It's a world-class place to watch and photograph hummingbirds including the violet sabrewing which lives here in abundance. After entry, you are almost immediately hit with the expansive view of catarata del...More

We did a quick stop to view this beautiful, massive waterfall on the way to the Arenal area. The volcano nearby had erupted that morning and the water was grey due to the volcanic ash. Very cool to see, but would have liked to have...More

It is a very nice waterfall and a well maintained path down to the viewing point, but 14$ is ridiculous! I think last year it was 10$, according to previous posts, and in my opinion a 40% raise can be hardly justified, except with greed!...More
