The owner who is Dutch was very professional and looked after us so well. He made us dinner and breakfast because we got in at 5:30pm. It is a challenge getting up to this waterfall, but wow....it is gorgeous. We drove and the hills to get there were steep. It was worth the drive. And the grounds around the hotel... More

I was astounded by the size of this waterfall. The setting is absolutely stunning as well. We arrived late, due to crap roads, but Will (the caretaker/owner) was very accommodating and allowed us to go check it out with headlamps. I have seen many waterfalls in Costa Rica, but this one takes the cake! Don't miss out!

We were happy to discover this waterfall, it proved to be one of the most beautiful places we've seen on our trip to CR. Catarata del Toro is the highest waterfall in CR with a 90m drop. It has a multicolored cliff for background and is surrounded by rich shades of green of the moss and tropical forest plants. The... More

In my opinion, this is the most beautiful waterfall we visited in Costa Rica. I almost don’t want to write about it because it’s a bit of a hidden gem and so far not touristy, and it would be great if it stayed that way. We had the whole hike and waterfall to ourselves the whole time we were there.... More

We were staying at nearby Bosque de Paz, with its own lovely and secluded waterfall in a huge private cloud forest. When we arrived at the Catarata del Toro it began to pour, so we hung out on the large covered terrace enjoying coffee and cake, observing the hummingbirds and chatting with other nature lovers. We took advantage of a... More

On our way back from La Fortuna to San Jose at the tail end of our trip, we decided to go the "long way" and make sure to stop here. Could not recommend more highly. The road is steep and has some nasty potholes, bu we did fine in our 2WD, though I could see where it might get washed... More

What an amazing place! This was definitely one of the most beautiful places I had the pleasure to visit while traveling around Costa Rica and, for the adventurous drivers, the roads are actually pretty good. It's a nice two hours drive from Arenal, which are actually very pleasant as you discover the countryside. Also, Will (the guardian/owner of the catarata)... More

Entrance fee is $10 it's over 300 step and back but it is worth it. Mother nature at her finest 😍 it's a must see, there are 2 route to get there go thru palmera it's longer but it's has better roads unless you have a 4×4

Not for the faint of heart or someone who is not physically fit. Otherwise spectacular! This is not a commercialized property. It's a good 500 steps vertically down the side of a mountain. Some spots have no railings and just mud. We loved it! There is a restaurant and facilities. So many hummingbirds! Take the garden walk it was lovely,... More

There are many waterfalls in CR but of all of the ones I've been to, this is the most impressive. It's beyond words and takes your breath away. I'm really glad I made the detour to visit this waterfall and you will be too. The round trip hike to the bottom is easy if you're fit. At $10 entry, it's... More
