With the exception of the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding the city, Yonezawa really does not have much about which to boast. The Uesugi Jinja Shrine is the major exception. It is well worth an hour or so to stroll around the peaceful grounds where the old castle once stood. Just on the other side of the old moat, is the... More

When I visited there, there were no many tourists, but had a lot of snow. I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. There is a museum close to this shrine, but I have no enough time to visit it.I would like to go this place again.

Was able to take picture with a nice family with their kids for the Shichi-go-san celebration. Good place for people who are fond of history and culture. Also got a near small shopping mart for... this is a local shrine and as usual there is always something interesting - recommend to speak to the old guards on the grounds who can tell you about the differences
