Lots of shops line this pedestrian only street which culminates at Lake Kinrin. Look out for a really delightful shop selling handicrafts that are truly unique. Along the way many snack shops tempt you with delicious snacks. If you stay at Yufuin this is a must visit place.

Yunotsubo road is from JR train station to Kinrinko lake. It takes about 20 min to walk.
There are many tourists and also many shops along the road, so you can buy souvenirs. I think this road is the main road in Yufu, it’s a country. During this road, you can see some Onsen inns. Just window shopping is fun along this road.

Yunotsubo Road is the main shopping road for tourists in Yufuin. It's not far from the train station and bus terminal. You just walk straight out of the train station and jog slightly to the right onto a diagonal street once you cross a small bridge. One of the first stores you'll see on your left is one selling Studio Ghibli merchandise - Totorro, Laputa, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc. As you keep following the road towards the mountains, you'll see lots of different shops and restaurants - some modern, some traditional. Prices are generally reasonable for a tourist area. There is a car museum and a Marc Chagall art museum as you approach the mountains and Lake Kinrin.

Get access easily from Yufuin station to this main street. There are a lot of things to see, to eat the local street food, and to shop the cute souvenirs and local snack.

This was the first stop of our road trip around Kyushu
we drove from Fukuoka Airport and used the telephone number of Kinrin Lake to navigate to the place
There are many parking places around the lake
(we parked at one which was 500yen for whole day but realised that there were others which were cheaper ie 200-300 yen)
once we parked the car, we just followed the crowd to get to the street which was about 5-10 min walk from the lake.

at the start of the street, you will also be able to find the "yufuin floral village" in the corner.. it is basically a collection of shops plus some animal attraction like an owl enclosure and also a goat (i think you can buy stuff to feed it)
Outside the floral village, you will find a "dog" themed shop and a "cat" themed shop... really cute (there are a couple of cats on the second floor of the shop)
the street is probably about 1.5-2km long i think but its an easy walk/stroll that you wont feel the distance

walking down the yunotsubo kaido street, you will find lots of stuff to eat/snack on.
our favorite was the Croquette shop (great esp on a cold winter morning), and Milch (which serves the award winning cheesy oozy cheesecake - its to die for) there will be a queue so i believe it will be easy to find.

do note that the restaurants do close after lunch about 2pm - after all the snacking we were too full for lunch and by the time we wanted to eat, most places were closed so we had to settle for street snacks for lunch

There are LOTS of things to do here:

1. Shop
If you like studio ghibli (eg spirited away), sanrio characters (eg hello kitty) and anime there are plenty of shops to keep you occupied.

2. Eat
Plenty of food stalls along the way if you need a quick bite.

3. Owl / Cat cafe, animals
Great for kids especially if they like animals. Rabbits, owls, cats...Just be careful the bigger one will butt it's head against the enclosure.

We stayed at Tsukahara and drive down on Sunday morning . Parked at Lake Kinrin park-whole-day for only 400yen . Lucky to chanced upon this car park, usual parking fee is 200yen per hour around this area. We spent almost whole day there , left only at 4pm. Parking attendant speaks English and gave us a map . He said it only takes 20 mins to walk down to train station. We took our time to shop and explore and eat . Lots of food to sample everywhere. There are cat shops , dog shop, hello kitten shop, glass shop and lots more . Yufuin floral village is worth a visit . It has all the Beatrice Potter Peter Rabbit characters in there. The tiny shops in there are very pretty too , very English indeed. We also went to the TrickArt museum which is somewhere in the middle , but off the Main Street . Streets are very clean and lots of tourists .

Ok, it is touristy but it is admittedly a lovely quaint street!
It brings excitement to the spa town.

There is the cheesecake ice-cream (soooo good!) and the grilled wagyu beef yakitori.
There are so many snacks along the way to entice you.....

This beats going to a mall ......anytime!

This is an old lane lined with souvenir shops on both sides, selling all sorts of knick knacks and Japanese sweets. Ice cream (soft cream) seems to be popular with many shops selling this. Yufuin is also famous for its cake roll (very much like a swiss roll), and there is a shop right at the beginning of the street which seems to be the one offering the "branded" version. If you are not into shopping or Japanese souvenirs, you can just take a stroll up and down the street (1 hour?) to soak in the ambience. If you plan to visit Lake Kirinko, you need to walk to the end of the street to get to the lake.

Yunotsubo Kaido is the shopping street in Yufuin and it is located about 10 minutes from Yufuin JR Station. The street is full of charming little shops and you can wander around the street for a day if you love shopping. There are restaurants, cafes and honey specialty shops and are good spots for people watching. There are more shops on the road leading to Lake Kinrin and do pop by the Floral Village, where there are more unique shops!
