Great to finally make it here. Make sure to look at the tide times before you visit, in low tide the sands are visible around the tori gate so its not "floating", and go early if you can to beat the crowds. Use your JR...More

Miyajima Island was a day trip we took from Hiroshima. It was just a short ferry ride to get there from Miyajima port. We spent a lot of time walking down by the water, popping in and out of temples, and enjoying the (overly) friendly...More

Magical. One feels calm and zen when in the island contemplating the torii on the water and walking by the shore

Well worth a short day trip from Hiroshima. Very hot when we went and pretty crowded, but still good. The wild deer are clearly completely used to visitors and just wander about looking to be fed. A few cranes hanging around, and on the seashore...More

Hi Melissa, I strongly suggest making the day trip to Miyajima Island. The island is suited for larger groups as it is small and the routes to the various destinations are clear and easy to traverse. One consideration... More

Just show them the JR pass. The ferry itself is inexpensive so they don't make it a big issue to obtain tickets especially since you have a JR pass..
