Historically spiritual center of japan
Nov 2018 • Couples
One of the spiritual center in Japan.the monk used to study here.one of the the temples here is on the cliff! U should check the pic.that is very unique even in Japan .must see.
If u are lucky, u can meet cats waiting for visitors besides the main temple.
It takes 25minutes to reach the temple from the car park.kind of hiking.
素晴らしいです。崖っぷちに建てられたユニークな寺です。小さな駐車場から歩く修験道はとても綺麗です。ただ、急な坂を登るので必ずスニーカーにしましょう。

A most charming temple, in a great location
May 2017 • Couples
First this is a tiny temple located on the side of a very steep gorge well outside of the city of Komoro in Nagano Prefecture. The guides we read advise that the trail to the temple is difficult and steep and recommends seeing it only from a distance. I agree that our observation of the trail would confirm that recommendation.

That being said we engaged a taxi at the train station, the round trip cost was exactly 5,000 Yen, the driver took us to within 2-3 blocks of the temple using a back route normally used by the priests who maintain and live at the temple compound. Trust me it is well worth the money, I presume most if not all of the local taxi drivers know of this "secret" back route.

The temple itself is quite small but "hangs" out from the cliff supported by posts extending up from the side of the gorge. Note the floor does not appear to be in the best of condition so watch your step unless you wish to take a rather nasty fall.

There are cherry trees in abundance and maple trees as well so it is probably even more attractive a little earlier or late in the year rather than in the mid-May when we went there. It was certainly a highlight of our trip to Komoro.

Not accessible by wheel chair, and I would not recommend it for young children due to the steepness and roughness of the trail.

The most beautiful and memorable place
Nov 2016 • Family
During our short visit to Nagano area, our family friend who lives in Komoro took us to this beautiful temple. This small little temple was build by the cliff, amazingly standing at the edge of the mountain. Breathtaking view from every corner.

Beautiful Cliff Hike
Aug 2015 • Couples
I lived in Komoro for 7 years and climbed up to this temple many times. It is a short, steep climb but only takes about 30 minutes. Craggy boulders and steep rock walls line the path. At the top there is a small Buddhist shrine perched on a cliff with a spectacular view of the Chikumagawa valley and Mt. Asama in the distance. This takes some energy and careful footing but is well worth the effort in any season.
