The big lakes on the photo are closed, because the fire in 2014 and the dangerous of falling rocks. The shorter trail with one small lake is only open.

It was a hot day and we started quite early. The route is officially closed but if you are happy to accept responsibility for yourself there is nothing to stop you for hiking down to the pools. You have to be reasonably fit and able to climb over the gate on to the trail. The trail is rocky and uneven so you definitely need good shoes. The views are great and the path is lined with pretty flowers and lizards skitter every where. There is little shade and the path is quite narrow in places. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the bottom of the gorge and the pools are stunning and the water crystal clear. There were only 2 other people when we arrived. The water is cool and refreshing and full of fish and tadpoles. The rocks can be a bit slippery so take care but it's definitely worth taking swimming gear. We were told it would take an hour or more to climb back up but I did it in slightly less. We met more people coming down and the path is narrow in places so you have to stop to let people pass - everyone was friendly. It was a hot sweaty climb up to the top and over the gate but the cafeteria was well stocked with cold drinks. It's a rewarding hike with great views and the swim is very much recommended.

Before going we didn’t see much recent info about the trail or what to expect, so here’s an update as of May 2022. There is a large parking lot at the start of the trail and on the morning we hiked an information booth with a woman who gave us a map and explained that while the trail was officially closed we could hop over the three foot gate right there. (If you get there and you can’t hop the gate, you’re not in condition for the hike.) Next to the info booth is a restaurant with water, Powerade and sodas. As a rule of thumb, if it is 75 and sunny, you will want to have two liters of water with you. It is strenuous and there’s little shade. And it is a steep trail. But the gorge is absolutely stunning. Bring your polls if you packed them. Hiking boots aren’t necessary. You could do it in trainers. I wore Keens and they were perfect as they generally are for most hikes. Depending on your pace and how often you stop for photos or water it takes about 50 minutes to get down to the second pool with the small waterfall where most people swim. In May on a sunny 80 degree day it was slightly cold but very refreshing. A few people dove in just to give you an idea. There were about 20 there midday - French, Italians, Brits, Swedes, Americans from what I could tell. Not crowded at all. The hike back up will take a third longer than going down. And again, there’s just a little shade. At the top you may get something more to drink at the restaurant or something from the ice cream freezer if it’s a hot day. Swimming at the bottom of the gorge is a treat. A great hike.

We went in october. The view at the top is amazing, but the pools are even better.
The gate was still closed, but the office next to it was open and the lady provided us with a map. We climbed over the gate and started or hike downwards.
Wear good walking shows! It is a difficult hike with a lot of rocks. It took us 40 minutes to go downwards and an hour to go back up with breaks (we are 27/25 years old and quite healthy).
But the Pools downstairs are worth it. You can jump from the cliffs into the water and enjoy nature! The water is cold, but you need that coolness for the way back up.
Bring enough water to drink for the way back up.

You can park at "parking - riserva cavagrande del cassible".

WATCH OUT, FRAUDS ARE STILL ACTIVE. When we drove back, just around the corner there was a car standing still and someone was standing outside. My boyfriend went with a big amount of space around it, but we heard a sound like we hit a rock. When I looked back I noticed that the man was signing that we hit his car (don't know how when the space between our cars was more than 1 meter), then I luckily remembered the other TripAdvisor reviews, so we didn't stop. Thanks TripAdvisor!

Unfortunately we didn't see the previous review before setting off from Ortigia. The drive up was pretty stunning but when we arrived we found that wire fencing was up to stop you from climbing the gate. There are works on-goung until 19 Nov 2020 so hopefully visitors next year can enjoy!

CLOSED!
Really looked forward to visiting this beautiful place.
Sadly you cannot get down to it now!
Apparently you used to have to climb over a gate & make your way down - however arrived today to find 10 foot fences every where! Apparently there are geologists are at work.....
Either way they clearly do not want this place visited for swimming - unless you are prepared to actually cause criminal damage of course
Nice view.....

This place is heaven.... some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. We went in the height of summer in August so it was boiling, to say the least. The walk down took about 45 mins (we are fit 30-year-olds), it was more the stopping to let people past and overtake which took the time. The ground is pretty uneven so make sure you wear trainers or proper hiking boots. When you get down you are greeted with the most spectacular natural spring pools, crystal clear blue/green water and it was super cold which is what you need in August!! Keep walking a bit further on though, as the pools only get better and bigger the further you go. The waterfall is also great. The walk up took about 45 mins, but we were really pushing ourselves. Take LOTS of water and pictures you will want to remember this place. Highly recommend!!!

Go, go, go. Don’t think twice, once you’re down the 1km hike you won’t regret it! A canyon of natural spring water and waterfalls, throw yourself into the ice cold water and get a massage from the many waterfalls. Remember before going down to take water and some sandwiches so you can refuel for the walk back
Up. We did it with a 9 and an 11 year old. Roughly 30 minutes walk down (can slippery in parts) and 40 minutes back up, believe it or not it was easier to walk back up! At the top there is a bar that serves food, drinks and ice creams etc. parking available right next to the bar for 3€ all day. Open from 8am to 9pm. Definitely do this or you will regret it!

We went a few years ago and only now writing about the experience. The kids were 7 and 9 and had no problem with the hike.
The trail is well marked and the water and pools were amazing. An absolute must. A magical experience. Crystal clear water. Don't pass this up!!!

Amazing place, water was crystal clear, swimming with the fish. The water was cold but worth the dive/jump in.
Long walk down and up but with it
