Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

More history for the history buff. A small museum with local history. Stop in and learn about what took place in this area.

Although just a bit pricey at 1000 yen, this museum gives a great background on the importance Shimoda played in Japanese history. Plenty of English, especially in areas dedicated to Perry's two visits and the establishment of a Consulate. There is also lots of Russian for similar sections on visits from them to Shimoda. Should only take 30-45 minutes to tour.

The museuam resprents a total culmination of decades of interactions between both Japan and America. It respresent the historical fact that Shimoda was the first landing place and step stone to our two countries actually interacting both on the positve and negative side.
