A Pasta Lover’s Dream...
Jan 2020
Whether you want to buy fresh pasta to cook at your holiday villa, or to buy some dried pasta to take back home as a reminder of your holiday, this is the place to go.

A huge selection of made on the premises fresh pasta (try the stelle stuffed with ricotta and basil), including regional speciality shaped pasta: orecchiette maritate, trofie and strozzapretti for example. You can find it all at Al Mattarello.

It’s a busy little shop, mainly frequented by locals. Even local restaurateurs can be spotted picking up orders... We have noticed their pasta in some of the supermarkets around Puglia, and someone has even told us they found it locally in Manchester UK.

And at 1.50EUR for a 500g bag of dried pasta - unless of course you are buying it in Manchester - what’s not to like?

The reason why I don’t make my own. Amazing fresh pasta, unbelievably inexpensive...
Sep 2018 • Solo
We relocated from London some time ago, to live in the Salento in the south of Puglia. A fan of pasta (every time over pizza), the culinary switch was not a hard one. Determined to cook my way through my Italian recipe book, making fresh pasta was high on my list of things “to do”. Until someone recommended “Al Mattarello”.

Founded in 1979 in San Vito dei Normannni by the Ligorio - De Carlo family, “Al Matterello” produces fresh, traditional pasta using local ingredients. Usually the pasta in this region is made without egg (historically eggs were a luxury, produced to sell rather than use), which, to my taste, makes for a lighter pasta.

Al Mattarello produce a huge range of pasta types. The regional specialities are a must - orecchiette, orecchiette maritate, maccheroni (not the anglicised macaroni), cavatelli, strozzapreti and trofie. You can buy these fresh or dried (their dried pasta comes in 500g bags from EUR1.50 - amazing value!). I take all my friends to their shop to buy their pasta to take back home for themselves, and for gifts.

They do some amazing stuffed fresh pasta - try the stelle (stars), stuffed with mozzarella and tomatoes. The mushroom stuffed pasta was also excellent.

If you are a past lover you will find yourself as a kid in a candy shop. You will not be disappointed!

Jul 2018 • Family
We had read the Tripadvisor reviews so went by the storen. The staff was really friendly and explained what they had. So we tried some fresh pasta with fillings for the day. And also took home some 2 kg dried pasta. They all tasted really nice, I can tell now.

Fresh Homemade Pasta!!
May 2017 • Family
My wife and I have been buying fresh pasta from Al Mattarello for well over thirty years!! They are an incredible family-owned business making a variety of fresh homemade pastas. While they've grown tremendously over the years, to include international sales, you can still buy from the same small shop in San Vito Dei Normanni. Every time we've lived outside of San Vito, we've had family and friends stop buy Mattarello and buy us pasta before their visits...suitcases full ;-) They vacuum pack the pasta for travelling and you can then freeze it for use later on. Absolutely the best...well worth the visit!!
